Holiday Schmoozefest 2016

The Unison Holiday Schmoozefest proved yet again to be so much more than a just a holiday party. Thanks to our incredible sponsors, nearly one in ten revellers took home an awesome door prize.

The music community dug deep, and raised double last years total, $20,000! All of which is invested back into Unison’s counselling and emergency assistance programs.
Did you have your photo taken with Santa at the Schmoozefest? Find your shot here.
Thank you to all of this year’s Schmoozefest sponsors; Entertainment One, Labatt Brewing Company, Slaight Music, SOCAN, Sony Music, The Arts & Entertainment Plan, Universal Music, Universe, and Warner Music—and to our staff, board members and volunteers for making the night possible!

Paul MacLeod, In Memorial

This past June our music community lost an extraordinary talent—Paul MacLeod. Remembered by his friends and collaborators as a kind and deeply generous musician, Paul was a multi-instrumentalist, a prolific songwriter, and an exciting performer. His loss was deeply felt throughout his community in Kitchener-Waterloo, and there was an outpouring of fondest memories on social media from friends across the country.
A memorial concert was planned and, in honour of Paul, no musicians were announced. The poster was designed to appear as Paul's show. The show sold out so quickly a second had to be added on the same day.
All of the bands donated their time and Waterloo’s Starlight Social Club covered the majority of the costs. After the amazing night was finished, the organizers generously choose to donate the $10,000 raised to the Unison Benevolent Fund in Paul’s honour.

Project WILD

We’re honoured to have been a made a part of Project WILD this year—an artist development program in Alberta run by the Wild 93 and the CRTC, and spiritual successor to the PEAK Program of previous years.
At the final showcase, Edmonton-based country band The Dungarees took home the top prize of $100,953.  Second Place of $75K went to Sykamore and Ken Stead of Edmonton took home $50K. Proceeds from ticket sales from the showcase were donated to Unison.
