The 2017 Unison Rocks Charity Bonspiel Raises $20k
for Canadian Music Workers in Crisis

TORONTO, February 1st, 2017—On January 27th at Toronto’s High Park Curling Club the Canadian music community raised $20,000 for their friends and colleagues in need and saw the Unison Rocks trophy pass into hands of the new champions!
“Unison Rocks has become a very special day on the calendar for a lot of us, and it’s amazing to see more and more teams wanting to participate!” said Sheila Hamilton, Unison’s Executive Director. “The money raised here today represents hundreds of hours of professional, private counselling and assistance for Canadian music workers. At the core of it, that is what Unison represents; the Canadian music community coming together to care for one another.”
The 2016 winners, Six Shooter Records’ Queens of the Stone Age were on hand to see the Unison Rocks trophy passed safely on to first-time bonspiel victors, The Sweepdogs of FACTOR!

Also awarded at Unison Rocks 2017:
  • In 2nd place, CONNECT Music Licensing’s team Skip It Good.
  • Ticketmaster’s 3 Sheets to the Wind ably claimed the Team Spirit Award.
  • Taking One For The Team was well earned by CIMA & Music Ontario’s team Sweepgood Mac.
  • Most Likely To Improve was awarded to SOCAN Music’s Unlicensed To Curl.

Of Special Note
It is delightful to be told that the first ever Ottawa Unison Rocks Charity Bonspiel, which is being hosted by the 2017 JUNO Host Committee on February 4th, has sold out! Proceeds from this event will be split between Unison and MusiCounts.
Curling may have been developed in Scotland, but it feels like a profoundly Canadian way to spend a day. Bonspiels—that is, curling tournaments—have been a big part of Unison’s fundraising since the very beginning and we want to help you create your own charity bonspiel
