TORONTO, December 13, 2016
—Santa was in attendance and the spirit of generosity ruled the evening at the second annual Unison Holiday Schmoozefest
held last night at Toronto Spice Route Bistro and Bar.
The music community gathered together to toast to the season and raised $20,000 which will be invested back into Unison’s counselling and emergency assistance for Canadian music professionals.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported the Schmoozefest last night. We couldn’t put on events like these without the help of all of the sponsors and volunteers,” said Sheila Hamilton, the executive director of Unison Benevolent Fund. “It’s been an incredible year for Unison, and with demand for our assistant programs increasing, it’s inspiring to see so many come out and support these programs.”
The Unison Holiday Schmoozefest also offered an opportunity to acknowledge two of the people who made Unison a reality; Deane Cameron
(President & CEO at The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall) and Lisa Zbitnew
(President and Owner/Operator of the Phoenix Concert Theatre) were members of Unison’s founding Board of Directors and can add to the list of their many contributions to the Canadian music community the milestone achievement having helped to raise over 1 million dollars to support Canadian music professionals in crisis. The current board, and everyone at Unison, is grateful to them both for their vision and commitment to Unison and for donating the knowledge and expertise that helped get Unison established.
Thank you to all of this year’s Schmoozefest sponsors; Entertainment One, Labatt Brewing Company, Slaight Music, SOCAN, Sony Music, The Arts & Entertainment Plan, Universal Music Canada, Universe, and Warner Music.
