It’s been a fantastic few months for Unison, so we’re taking a look back at the amazing ways the community has come together to support our programs.
A ton of teams returned for the second annual Unison Rocks Charity Bonspiel, to build their curling skills and compete for the new and improved Unison Rocks Trophy. We were also delighted to have returning Unison Rocks sponsors, Music Canada, Slaight Music and Sony Music Canada, and new sponsor Warner Music Canada.
The 2016 Unison Bonspiel trophy was claimed by Six Shooter Records’ Queens of the Stoneage, with the Sweeping Beauties of Ticketmaster handily taking home the “Most Potential” award. Congratulations to the winning teams and thank you to all of this year’s participants!

Want to run a Bonspiel of your own?
Curling may have been developed in Scotland, but it sure feels like a profoundly Canadian way to spend a day! Bonspiels—that is, curling tournaments—have been a big part of Unison’s fundraising since the very beginning and we want to help you create your own DIY Bonspiel! Check it out here.

In December, the tremendous success of the Unison Holiday Schmoozefest guaranteed that our first holiday party wouldn’t be our last. Over 400 music industry notables came out to mingle and make merry in Toronto, and raised over $10,000!

Were you at the Bonspiel or Schmoozefest?! Visit the full photo galleries here.

PEAK Performance Project Alberta

We’re thrilled that the Alberta PEAK Performance Project made Unison a part of their spectacular project this fall. The PEAK Performance Project is a seven-year, $4.9 million contest open to all musicians in Alberta, run by Alberta Music and 95.3 The PEAK in Calgary, AB. Modeled after PEAK Performance Project BC, which completed its seven year cycle this year, PEAK Performance Project Alberta invites twelve finalists from Alberta to an intensive one-week training program in the music business, live performance, songwriting, marketing and promotion.
At the finale this year, Leeroy Stagger took home the top prize of $100,953.00, with second place ($75,000) going to The Royal Foundry and third place to ($50,000) to TRANSIT. In addition to those top prizes, a $5,000 base camp award is given to each of the Top 12 bands to help them with their career development.
PEAK Performance Alberta also donated the door sales from the four PEAK Showcases and the finale—over $8,500 total!
