RDA Wheatbelt - Tourism Economic Briefing Paper
The Tourism Research Australia, Local Government Area Profiles for 14 Wheatbelt Shires were recently released and with the BBRF Round 5 having a focus on tourism, RDA Wheatbelt has prepared a Wheatbelt tourism economic briefing paper that may offer supporting data to applicants.
•    Tourism expenditure based on economic data of the 14 shires derived from National Visitor Survey Monthly Snapshot (2020), amounted to $387 Million in 2019-2020.  This comprised $355 million of domestic and $32 million of international expenditure.
•    In the 12-month period up until the COVID lockdown of international borders International visitation to the Shires of Dandaragan, Gingin, York, Northam and Kondinin accounted for:
   -     58,000 international visitors 
   -     262,000 international visitor nights
   -     $32 million of international expenditure
•    Closure of international borders may have resulted in the loss of between 200 and 226 jobs based on the either a job created for every $141,600 in tourism consumption; or a job generated for every 283.5 visits.
•    There were 836 tourism businesses in the Wheatbelt including 30 with 20 or more employees.

Grants and Funding Opportunities

BBRF – Community Investments Stream. Between $5,000 and $1 million for new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans, or leadership and capability strengthening activities that provide economic and social benefits.  Closing 5 March.  

BBRF – Infrastructure Projects Stream. Between $20,000 and $10 million are available to support investment ready projects for new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure, that provide economic and social benefits. Closing 5 March.

National Volunteer Week Grants. Three categories and funding levels to hold an event and participate in the annual national celebration of Australia’s extraordinary volunteers. Closing 7 March.  

Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund. $1000 to $30,000 for community cricket facility projects, with a focus on growing participation and promoting accessibility and inclusivity. WA closing 12 March.  

NAIDOC Grant. From $200 to $1000 for NAIDOC Week activities that celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, achievements and continuing contributions to the country and society. Closing 15 March.  

Youth Recovery Grants. Up to $10,000 for activities that develop the knowledge, confidence and skills of young people, provide opportunities, and/or promote lifelong healthy lifestyles. Closing 18 March.  

Coles Nurture Fund. Up to $500,000 to help small to medium Australian producers, farmers and manufacturers to innovate and grow their business. Closing 19 March.

Modern Manufacturing Initiative – Manufacturing Integration Stream. $1 mill to $20 mill to support projects that integrate Australian businesses into domestic and international value chains, propelling their goods and services into new markets and foster Australia’s reputation as a modern manufacturing leader. Closing 22 March.

Community Stewardship Grants Program. $1000 to $450,000 to support community-based projects that help conserve, restore, rehabilitate or enhance a local natural area, conserve WA’s biodiversity and maintain or build the capability of NRM community groups across the State.  Closing 17 May.   

Caravan Park Defibrillator Subsidy Program. Up to $1,000 per unit available on a dollar for dollar matched funding basis to encourage caravan parks operators to install the devices. Closing 30 June.
