Thanksgiving Change
The humorist Mark Twain suggested we have it backwards.  We should spend one day complaining, acting sullen, ungrateful, and bitter, and then spend the other 364 days a year being thankful for what God has given us.

Thanksgiving will be here in less than two weeks.  Thanksgiving is a secular, not a sacred holiday.  The way society has celebrated the holiday has changed over time.  Previous Thursday as set aside as family time and giving thanks.  Now shopping has crept its way onto Thursday.  Many people are up with the dawn to prepare their feast for the noon meal, monopolizing their morning schedule.

That has also impacted the way the church celebrates Thanksgiving.  Over time, our Thursday morning service attendance has dwindled.  So, our worship committee has recommended a change in service times.  The Thursday morning service has gone away altogether.  Wednesday worship will match our regular midweek Advent schedule at 4:30pm and 6:30pm.

A special feature, and perhaps a new tradition, will happen in between services.  Rather than a sit down meal, each family is asked to bring in a pie - any kind will do, fruit, pumpkin, homemade or bought.  We'll enjoy a piece of pie, the fellowship of our Christian family, and a heart of thanks for all God's goodness.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever (Psalm 118:1).

Home in Heaven  On Monday, November 10 our Lord in his infinite wisdom called to rest the soul of Robert Moldenhauer, former member of Redeemer. A memorial service will be held tonight at Risen Savior in Milwaukee. Memorials may be sent to Builders for Christ or Martin Luther College. The address for Elaine Moldenhauer is 8949 N. 97th St. Apt. A126, Milwaukee, WI 53224. May the Lord comfort all who mourn with the promise of a resurrection and reunion. “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.”

Divine Call  As a result of the last call meeting, a call was extended for an associate pastor. Pastor Benjamin P. Schaefer of First German Lutheran Church in Manitowoc, WI was chosen by the voters. Please keep Pastor Schaefer and his family in your prayers as he deliberates his call.

Thanksgiving Food Drive  The Girl Pioneers are asking for non-perishable food items, as well as grocery store gift cards, so they can distribute boxes to families who can use a little extra help during the holidays. If you know of a family who would benefit from this project, please let our pastor know. Thanks!

Gift Card Donations  In these uncertain times there are many of our brothers and sisters in the faith who are struggling financially. One way that we can help is by giving them gift cards for groceries or gas. If you are in a position to do so and are willing, please consider purchasing these gift cards (Scrip) from Juanita Lange and bring them to the church office. Thank you for your Christian love and concern.

A Thanksgiving Book to Share with the Family
A lovely book to share with your family at Thanksgiving is Thanksgiving: A Harvest Celebration by Julie Stiegemeyer and illustrated by Reneé Benoit. This beautifully illustrated book tells of the 102 travelers who left Plymouth, England for the promise of a new beginning in the new world. Your children will learn of the hardships and trials of that first year in this foreign land. They will learn how the Indians came to the aid of the Pilgrims, and they will learn that even in the midst of sorrow and suffering, God is there sustaining us. God’s Providence is never failing.
This book is available for sale in the Resource Center.
