February 2023
Dear Readers,

Moving to another country can be a difficult experience, especially if you are moving to escape difficult circumstances. The decision to leave a familiar environment and adapt to another social and cultural context should not be taken lightly, as immigrant families go through a long adaptation process. Teachers are not only instrumental in this adaptation process, they are at the very heart of it for a lot of newcomers.

Since we have a natural inclination to help and nurture those in need, especially those coming in with past trauma, we risk falling into a pattern where we will not take enough time for ourselves and devote most of our energy to our students in their time of need.

So do we nurture ourselves enough? It comes down to being aware of our emotional, mental, physical or spiritual needs, and learning to fulfill them. And since everyone is a unique individual, how you nurture yourself will differ from how you care for others.

Never feel guilty engaging in self-care because it is essential to strive for a life balance where you’re nurturing yourself and the loved ones in your life, as well. In this way, you can do a great service to yourself and those in your care.

All our best!

While online classes offer many benefits, they can also pose challenges for students' motivation and engagement. Without face-to-face interaction with instructors and classmates, it can be difficult for students to feel connected to the material and to one another. Teachers must find innovative ways to promote engagement and participation in online classes to ensure students are receiving the best education. Pear Deck is an interactive presentation tool that can be used to improve student engagement in online classes. Join us to learn more about this amazing resource!
