Tim Reynolds Property

As we announced last month, Tim Reynolds and his widow donated the whole of his shop to the OBG.  With the help of some great volunteers from the Guild we were able to retrieve the contents of the shop.  Many tools and materials were acquired and delivered to a couple of locations.  Amongst them was a 25lbs Little Giant power hammer.  It is mostly functional but will require some TLC before useable.  Look out for notifications  for small group projects to restore some of these items.

!!!Meeting hosts needed!!!

With the on-going COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions Dauset Trails remains closed to the Guilds use for meetings.  We are seeking volunteers to host meetings at their home shop.  The only real requirements that ask are as follows:

1.  A forge (solid fuel or propane) and
2. Anvil.
3. Tooling - If you have limited tooling (tongs, hardy tools, etc...) please let us know ahead of time so the demonstrator can prepare and bring tools.

If you have limited space (forge/shop, parking, etc), please let us know how many members you would be willing to host (including Demonstrator).

Please email ocmulgeeblacksmiths@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer.

We have received a couple of donations by Jim Guy and are working out the logistics of the raffle.

If you have an item for donation please send pictures to OcmulgeeBlacksmiths@gmail.com

Here is an excellent resource on some Blacksmithing basics from ABANA!

Controlled Hand Forging
Very often on the social media sites new blacksmiths will ask basic questions about where to learn a particular skill. There are more ways than ever to expand one’s ability but a very quick and easy place to get started is the Controlled Hand Forging lessons which can be found on the ABANA website
https://abana.org/education/controlled-hand-forging/. This voluntary program is a progressive set of lessons which emphasize ten forging fundamentals and is valuable to blacksmiths of all skill levels.

Lesson #1 - Drawing out

Tutorial: Spring Fuller
This is a great tutorial on making a mild steel spring fuller to fit the hardy hole on your anvil.
Note: if you choose to make this out of coil spring you will either need to anneal or properly heat treat the steel.  Otherwise there is great potential for it to fail.
