Saving lives: Spark is keen to collaborate. We develop innovations that help surgeons save time during operations. And we help rescue workers in their duties with, among other things, the Rescue Tip-Board. It was on TV!

“We save lives!”

Not long now until the start of Medica (16-19 November), the largest trade fair in the medical technology sector. Spark will be there, because we are increasingly active in the ‘Health’ domain. We are proud of this: the use of our products sometimes makes the difference between life and death.

“It is rewarding for us to work on products that help clinicians, care workers and patients. We can make a difference in this area. From the development of core technology to working out the user interaction and taking care of the manufacturability,” says Michel van Schie from Spark.

Spark can work very well with the applicable requirements for the development of innovation. All in the medical field. Van Schie: “Where necessary, we work according to the ISO 13485 guideline. We are also amply experienced with CE and medical device directive 93/42/EEC. In short, we know how to operate in this context. And that is very useful if you want to achieve excellent results.”
Klaas rescues drowning victim

Do you know ‘Klaas kan Alles’ (Klaas can do Anything)? In this NPO 3 programme, Klaas van Kruistum takes on seemingly impossible challenges. In this Saturday’s broadcast, you can see the Rescue Tip-Board: an innovation developed by Spark.

The RTB is an ergonomic, inflatable rescue device that allows the fire brigade to reach a victim up to six times faster.

Presenter Klaas experiences the impressive performance of the Rescue Tip-Board. What will he do exactly? You can see that here. Find a film of ‘the making of’ here.
Helping hand for surgeon

Suturing blood vessels is a crucial operation. Now, it can be done faster and more precisely than ever with the Mellon Switch®. This is a handheld instrument that allows a surgeon to keep one hand free during suturing. Spark worked intensively with medical specialists during the development of this innovation.

Robert Barnhoorn: “There has never been a product like this; it is truly 'new to the world'. From day one, we were involved in the development. Together we have achieved a breakthrough. What’s more, the product complies with all the applicable guidelines. It’s great to have succeeded in this.”
You already knew, of course, that firefighters save lives worldwide ever day…But did you also know that they frequently use Holmatro tools, for example to free victims from cars? Spark is working intensively on developing these kinds of products. More about that in a next Spark UPDATE.
