Welcome to a beautiful new program year for MUUSAN
and all Maine UU congregations!
MUUSAN Network Meeting
Saturday, Sept. 10, 10:00-noon
(second Saturday, every other month)
*** Meeting Location Change! ***
Lithgow Public Library, 45 Winthrop St., Augusta 04330
(Just one block toward the river from the UU Comm. Church of Augusta, same street)
With the Nov. 8 election just ten weeks away, the MUUSAN Network reconvenes to share urgent updates and information about individual and congregational opportunities to witness to UU values during this time.
We offer information packets on the four MUUSAN-endorsed ballot measures (see below), worship/ritual activities to share in connection with these issues, a new MUUSAN brochure to invite others into this legislative ministry, and best of all, the chance for fellowship with other UUs from around the state!
The three MUUSAN Issue Groups (Democracy in Action, Health Care for All, and Climate Change) have a full complement of talented co-chairs and are ready to roll! Issue Groups will meet in breakout sessions.
PLEASE JOIN US AT AUGUSTA'S LITHGOW PUBLIC LIBRARY!
October MUUSAN DAY
in Maine UU congregations
We urge every Maine UU congregation to host an educational table on the four
MUUSAN-endorsed November ballot initiatives on at least one of these Sundays —
Oct. 2, 9, or 16 — to inform and motivate voters and to encourage volunteers.
Then please let us know you did it and how many people you reached!
MUUSAN has endorsed four of the six ballot questions:
• Question 2: Stand Up for Students (fully funding public education through a 3% tax on household incomes over $200,000)
• Question 3: Background Checks for Firearms (closes legal loophole for 40% of Maine firearm sales or transfers not now requiring background checks)
• Question 4: Raise the Minimum Wage (to $12/hr by 2020)
• Question 5: Ranked Choice Voting (enhances voter voice and civil discourse)
We encourage UUs to support and work for these measures for a more healthy, more just and compassionate, more equitable and more civil Maine.
Watch for a packet of issue papers and other materials ready to print!
MUUSAN at the COMMON GROUND FAIR
Hurray, MUUSAN's first time at the Common Ground Fair! We are blessed with this opportunity to share with thousands of people the message of our UU faith in action through legislative ministry.
We still have a few volunteer spots open to help us table on Friday, Saturday, Sunday September 23-25. Shifts of 2-4 hours available, or stay all day.
If you want to help, contact Lynn Ellis who is organizing this event for us. You can reach her at email@example.com. Volunteer spots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. We look forward to sharing this experience with you!
WELCOME to all our MUUSAN newcomers!
MUUSAN has been rapidly expanding our mailing list to Maine Unitarian Universalists and others who share our values in the public arena. We hope you will enjoy all the opportunities that our newsletter, website
and active Facebook Page
provide for social justice actions in Maine, especially on our three primary issues: 1) democracy in action, 2) health care for all, and 3) climate change.
