MUUSAN has long partnered with Maine Citizens for Clean Elections to fight back against wealthy special interests in Augusta. Our lawmakers should be beholden to us, not the industries they are elected to regulate.
On Tuesday, February 28, starting at 1:00 in Rm. 228, the Appropriations Committee will consider the budget for the Maine Clean Elections Fund. The Governor’s proposed budget is shy by more than $2 million, and some lawmakers are even proposing additional measures to weaken our voter-approved law!
The will of Maine voters must be respected. We need to fully fund this portion of the budget. MCCE is also calling for a return of money that past legislatures raided from the Clean Election Fund.
Our voices matter. Show up to demonstrate our strong support of this important measure, which the people have supported through the referendum process.

BUDGET AND EDUCATION FUNDING - On Friday, March 3, at 10:00 AM, there will be a public hearing on Gov. LePage’s proposal to cut more than $150 million from education funding.
The Governor's proposed budget would move Maine schools backwards. In addition to eliminating Question 2, which was endorsed by MUUSAN and passed by the voters of Maine last November, the Governor's proposed budget make these dramatic cuts to public education and also lifts the existing cap on charter schools.
The hearing will start at 10:00 AM in Room 228 at the Maine State House. It will be a joint hearing with the Appropriations and Education Committee.
Our students and our communities can not afford more cuts to local schools!
