One fine day two Crabs came out from their home to take a stroll on the sand. “Child,” said the mother, “you are walking very ungracefully. You should accustom yourself to walking straight forward without twisting from side to side.”
“Pray, mother,” said the young one, “do but set the example yourself, and I will follow you.”

A Time to Celebrate Reading
In like a lion, March starts off with Read Across America week. This is a time to focus on the importance of reading. Research has shown that children who read regularly not only excel in school, but also display heightened creativity and greater empathy for others. Motivating children to read should be a goal for all communities in support of our hard working teachers and librarians. Remember that if we can inspire them to love reading, they will find a world of possibilities ahead.
Did you know that children are more likely to pick up a book if they see a parent or sibling reading? If you have a reluctant reader or if you just want to have fun together, read aloud to your kids, mo matter their age. Have you ever thought about a chapter a night of a classic around the dinner table? Whether it's for a little one discovering their first book or a lazy Sunday afternoon, come on in and pick up a new book. Revisit that classic Seuss you forgot about or step into a new world with an author you've never read. Now is a great time to celebrate reading!
Example is the best precept
We'll be kicking off Read Across America week by offering a 10% discount on all books on Friday, March 1 followed by a week of events, contests and giveaways. Help ensure everyone has a chance to love reading!
Happy Birthday Dr Seuss
March 2 is Dr. Seuss' Birthday! He would have been 115 years old this year. Like Aesop and his use of fables to preach moral lessons to the masses, Dr. Seuss used his words and illustrations to help millions of children learn to read and for many, to fall in love with books. He also imparted a few of his own moral lessons along the way:
'The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.'
Although he's been gone more than 25 years, Dr. Seuss continues to preach the importance of reading and learning and has left us with a treasure trove of classics. Did you know he wrote more than 60 books? How many can you name?
We hope you will join us for a discussion of The One-in-a-Million Boy by Monica Wood on Tuesday, March 26. We will meet at 11am AND 7pm. Pick whichever time works for you.
