When We Were Kings

The story of the famed “Rumble in the Jungle” heavyweight match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman held in Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo) in 1974. Directed by Leon Gast, the film won an Academy Award in 1996. Gast originally set out to document the Zaire 74 music festival taking place at the same time. Interviews and snippets from some of the performers, including James Brown, Bill Withers, Miriam Makeba, B.B. King, and The Spinners, are featured in When We Were Kings.
