There is plenty to talk about this quarter without even discussing politics, the Ashes, Le Tour, or State of Origin. We continue to enjoy an expanding portfolio of projects with both corporate and government clients, covering areas as diverse as; business operating models, enterprise architecture, business case development, contestability, risk management, cloud strategy, and ICT infrastructure roadmap development. Read on for some great examples.

On the subject of politics (and ICT), one suspects that the NBN will be subject to increasing focus as we move closer to the polls, and the contrasting policies of the major parties makes for an interesting discussion. It is hoped that much of this discussion is targeted at areas of need such as fixing the connectivity problems of schools across regional and remote parts of the country.

Business Aspect presented at a recent Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) session on Cloud Security.  Duncan Unwin delivered a comprehensive presentation which was well attended by a number of key government and commercial representatives and which covered:

– Why Cloud is here and why you had better get used to it – the overwhelming economics of Cloud.

– Seven Reasons why Cloud is a new type of security challenge - why every technique you have used to manage security needs to be reconsidered.

– How you can manage Cloud security – why a total lifecycle approach to security management is best

Contestability and “ICT as a Service” are key themes for Queensland government.  Recently we facilitated an all-day offsite with an Agency to discuss these themes, how they can use contestability as a process to improve service delivery and, to share our experience in assisting customers through the process of defining their; problems, potential benefits, strategic response and solution options.  The Victorian Government Investment Management Standard was presented as a methodology that complements the Queensland Treasury Project Assurance Framework.

Financial services organisations face risk management decisions on a daily basis. Effective strategies and planning are essential in arriving at the right decisions.  A major NSW based financial services sector client is benefiting from our experience and knowledge in areas such as risk and continuity. Through demonstrating a business-focus as well as a clear understanding of methodologies and standards, Business Aspect continues to be engaged in areas as diverse as; enterprise risk management, business continuity planning, and call centre strategy.  Our ability to combine; an absolute focus on the business, sound methodologies, and strong technical knowledge facilitates the delivery of great outcomes with such engagements.

As is often the case, we have numerous business Cases on the go.  We are working with numerous public and private sector clients on a regular basis in determining their future business needs, sounding out the market for viable outsourcing or solution options and, preparing comprehensive Business Cases.

With so much going on in the business it was great to get most of our 60+ people together last Friday evening with partners for our end of financial year celebration. Held at Aquitaine at South Bank, this event was a great opportunity for everyone to catch-up and relax as we look forward to an exciting year ahead.
