With 7 state championships completed in an unbelievably busy month, all our focus has now turned to what is shaping up to be the biggest powerlifting meet Australia has ever had, the 2014 GPC Nationals on the Gold Coast. Scott and Tish Wasson are flat out organising this event, but our VP Scott Wasson still found time to head across the pond to give our NZ friends a hand in holding their first GPC event. With 34 lifters on a first up event, things are looking great for powerlifting in NZ. Scott will be working with the NZ team to ensure we get some sort of International invitational going in the near future. At least 3 GPC NZ lifters will be heading over to Australia in September to compete, and I reckon there may be quite a few Aussies flying over in 2015 to compete over there.

Best Lifts: Squat 182.5kg, Bench 80kg, Deadlift 182.5kg Total: 445kg
Weight Class: 90kg +

Training Background: I have been playing basketball on and off for the past 14 years and I used to do rowing through high school. I started doing some basic weight training about 2 years ago and really enjoyed the training style.  I slowly started to incorporate more squats and deadlifts and focusing on increasing the weights. I have spent the last 6 months focusing on strongman style training and came 2nd in the Open Division of SA's Strongest Woman 2014. I have been powerlifting for just under a year now but everything fell into place after I started training at Fuzzys Power Gym in December last year. I have been coached by Fuzzy since then and under his program, I have not only gained a lot of strength, but also focused on technique and started to work on my mobility which has resulted in some huge PB's!!

Training Goals: At the moment I am getting ready to start training for GPC Nationals and later this year I will be focusing on ProRaw. Ultimately, I want to focus on getting stronger and bringing my total up to 500kg.
