About Bonaventure          Leadership          Mission          Core Values

Message from Dwight

Every year, Bonaventure Property Management gathers our employees for a leadership conference designed to provide an exchange of inspiration and solutions-focused ideas.

Historically, we've brought in outside guest speakers, leaders not only in our field but also representing the best of technology, communication, and collaboration. This year, rather than rely on outside influences, we searched for leaders within. Instead of hearing from a stranger with a motivational message, our team heard from their peers. As we posed the question "who do you want to be," employees could look to innovative leaders who, on that day, may be behind the podium at the front of the room but, on any other day, were working alongside them.

It has been said that true leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders. Who are the leaders among your team?

Bonaventure About Town

2019 Leadership Conference

Who do you want to be? This is the question that kicked off the 2019 Bonaventure Leadership Conference in Williamsburg, VA. A very simple, yet powerful question for our teams. As they attended educational sessions presented by their peers and participated in fun activities, this question was presented frequently. Our goal was to inspire and motivate our teams to become leaders in the industry and strive for even greater successes in 2019.

On the evening of the awards ceremony our teams embraced every Core Value, especially #9: Pride Without Ego. Many team members spoke on stage and accepted their award while recognizing their team, for they could not succeed without them. These are leaders of our company who are creating more leaders within. Congratulations to all of our winners at this year's BonaCon!

The Leaders You Admire Share This Coveted Soft Skill: Here Are Four Ways To Get it

By Amy Blaschka

Quick: think of a leader you admire. Most likely, you respect their business acumen and strive to emulate their leadership style. The chances are that something about them makes you feel like you know them and they “get” you.

And that’s no accident.

No matter their industry or age, those business leaders all share one thing in common: the ability to connect with others.

When you can effectively connect with others, you immediately increase your ability to communicate, foster deeper relationships and build trust. This naturally makes you more persuasive, which will help you rally your team and positively influence your peers, partners and customers.

The good news is that this coveted leadership soft skill isn’t reserved for titans of industry. You, too, can increase your ability to connect; here are four lessons from top leaders to help you do so:

1. Put on your empathetic listening ears. – Gary Vaynerchuk

You can’t connect with someone if you’re always talking. Entrepreneur and VaynerMedia CEO Gary Vaynerchuk attributes his ability to connect with others to the related soft skills of empathy and listening. This helps him put himself in others’ shoes and truly understand things from their perspective. And when you listen, you have a chance to learn about and from others. People will naturally align themselves with leaders who make them feel heard and understood.
