| | | | | Happy New Year!
We had a busy year last year. We had over 340 adoptions and helped more than 435 animals get spayed/neutered in 2022! None of this would be possible without all of you.
So, for the abandoned, overlooked, abused, harmed and unwanted animals who came to the Rescue with hopes of a second chance at a good life, we wish to express a very heartfelt and sincere THANK YOU! You have played a part in making this happen.
Thank you to the businesses and individuals who generously support our mission and contribute financially to keep the work going. Thank you to the partner Veterinarians who donate their time, perform services at reduced rates, and deal with routine and emergency issues when needed. Thank you to the Volunteers who care for the animals in our partner pet stores, facilitate good matches between our animals and applicants, and broadcast our mission to family, friends and coworkers. Thank you to our Foster families who take in our animals and care for them until they find their forever homes. Thank you to the Adopters who make the lifelong commitment to care for and love their new pets. Thank you to those who contribute food, supplies, bedding, toys, litter and other materials to help the animals. Thank you to our partner pet stores that provide space for our animals, host adoption events, and donate supplies. Thank you to those who perform all the “back office” tasks involved in keeping the Rescue running.
THANK YOU and CHEERS to a wonderful 2023! | | | Featured PetMaggie and Sissy This mom and daughter duo are beautiful gray tabbies ready for their forever home. Maggie, the momma, was born in December 2018. Sissy, her daughter, was born in June 2021. They have a special bond and complement each other’s personality. Maggie is laid back and relaxed. Sissy is spunky and loves to play.
|
| | Maggie can take time to warm up to people and lets Sissy do the research. If Sissy approves, Maggie approves. Maggie loves scratches behind the ears and down the sides of her neck and will ask for them by popping her little head up wherever you are sitting. She can be shy, but with a little encouragement and practice, she will jump up on your lap for some pets. She has a very calm and quiet demeanor. Sissy chases toys and plays hide and seek with them. She isn't much of a cuddler but she will have her moments of coming up and asking for pets before she goes running off to find something to play with. Both girls enjoy watching the world go by at the windowsill. They are super easy to have around and will do best in a calmer environment, with older children or no children. | |

| | | Volunteer HighlightGretchen is a Volunteer, an Adopter, a Foster, and an Adoption Coordinator.
Tell us a little about yourself. My name is Gretchen and I live in Huntingdon Valley with my husband, two teenagers, two Bernese Mountain Dogs (Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler), and three cats (Jake, Penny and Sesame). I am currently taking classes to become a Certified Feline Training and Behavior Specialist and also a Certified Advanced Feline Training Professional. Why do you choose to volunteer? I volunteer because I have always had a need to be close to and work with animals. I’ve always had such love and caring for animals that I wanted to use in a constructive and tangible way that volunteering provides. What made you choose Hart 2 Heart Animal Rescue? I found Hart2Heart through Cari. I began by caring for the kitties at PetSmart, fostered 2 kittens and have a foster fail now. Is there a moment or memory that stands out from your time here? It would be when the kittens I fostered went to their forever home. While we were sad to lose those cute kittens, it was such a joy knowing they were going to a good home, and that I now had the ability to help even more cats. What have you learned about yourself and/or about others through volunteering with Hart 2 Heart? I learned that I wanted to learn even more about cats in order to better be able to help them. |
| |
It prompted me to get my certificates so I can make a career out of my love for animals. What has been the biggest surprise about volunteering with Hart 2 Heart? While I have known that there are a lot of feral/homeless/abandoned cats out there, you don’t really see the extent of it until you work in rescue like this. If you could encourage someone else to volunteer at our Rescue, what would you say? It’s not as hard as you think! It doesn’t have to be a huge or long term commitment, anything helps. Anything else you want to share about volunteering with Hart 2 Heart? It has been a life changing experience for me. |

| | | | | How to help in 2023
Adopt. If you've been thinking that it's time to add a pet to your family, we are ready to help find the best match for you and your lifestyle.
Foster. Foster one or more pets in your home to help prepare them for their forever home. The need is great and the rewards are too!
Volunteer. Volunteer your time socializing cats in our partner pet stores. Offer your skills and expertise. We can always use your experience, whether it's as a photographer, lawyer, accountant, fundraiser, event planner or interviewer.
Donate. We rely on donations to cover veterinary care, microchipping, vaccines, and supplies that are needed to keep the Rescue running. No amount is too small! Sponsor an animal or become a recurring donor.
Become a fan. Like and follow us on Facebook and Instagram, invite your friends and family to like and follow too. Engage by sharing and commenting on posts. Use social media to spread awareness and potentially find a home for an abandoned animal. Share photos and adoption information on Twitter, Facebook and other social media websites, and keep your friends and family updated on fundraising events and other local functions.
Be creative. Host a restaurant/bar happy hour fundraiser or have a bake sale. Set up a donation box or a lemonade stand.

| | Happily Ever After
The D’Aquilos and Morris and Lindsey
We had Cheeto and Chet since 2004 and adopted Tony from Hart 2 Heart in 2018. We had to put Chet down in May 2021 which was crushing for our whole family. We knew Cheeto wouldn't be far behind.
Cheeto was, obviously, an orange guy. The stereotypical special orange guy. For the longest time my wife insisted we had to get another orange guy for Cheeto to show the ways of being orange. As silly as that sounds, orange cat owners know what we're talking about. Anyway, over months we would see orange cats on Hart 2 Heart's page but timing was never right. Then we saw Morris in January 2022 and we knew we had to look. We went down (to the Petsmart) and there he was laying in the same position Cheeto always laid. It was a done deal the second we laid eyes on him.
As we were contacting Sharon and trying to get store assistance, we were looking at the other cats and there was Lindsey. Fourteen years old, she melted our hearts.
| |
|
Then Sharon told us her story (or what she knew). We felt like no one would want a frightened fourteen year old cat and it just broke us into tears. So, we came home with two cats that day. It did our hearts right to give them both a home, especially Lindsey.
Then five months later Tony got sick and we put him down on 6/13. Cheeto followed three weeks later, on 7/2. To say this house was devastated would be an understatement. We knew Cheeto wasn't long for the world but poor Tony got sick and deteriorated in less than a month. It was awful.
We say all the time that we don't know what we would've done without Morris and Lindsey. The amount of tears that have been shed were much easier to dry with those two. It's the old cliche, we rescued them but in the end they have rescued us. For real.
Thank you, Hart 2 Heart, for bringing so much love and joy to our house.
