It is 90 days till November 1 - the start of open enrollment on the Washington HealthPlanFinder exchange - do you have a game plan?

Here are a few recommendations from our playbook:

Get trained and registered on the exchange early 
As you may know, more carriers are selling exclusively through the exchange (including 2017 Premera plans). If you plan to sell through the exchange, you must go through Washington Health Benefit Exchange (WAHBE) broker training and registration process every year. 

Broker Training Sessions start September 15 as posted on the exchange Broker Training Webpage. For currently registered brokers, there is a training webinar you can attend to renew your registration rather than attending an in-person event. Log-in to the WAHBE broker site for more information.

Review your book of business for changes that may need to be made
By logging onto our website and using myBusiness, you can get a list of your assigned policies sold through Connexion and start planning out any transitions that have to be made. Use the step-by-step instructions to get your book of business. Premera Blue Cross and other carriers are leaving certain counties in 2017 (see WA map of 2017 carriers by county) and most plans are changing (see previous email).

Have your clients set up their account on the exchange
By setting up their account early, your clients will see their subsidy level and just have to select their plan when open enrollment arrives.
Tip: There are new tricky username and password requirements on the exchange. The exchange no longer allows passwords with words found in the dictionary so try substituting a symbol for a letter or spelling backwards to find a compliant one. Muun$hyne4 works because it has no words in it, has 8 to 20 characters, contains at least one number, one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and a special character (!, $, # or ^).


Get your appointments through Connexion
With Connexion, you can sell individual and family plans from Premera Blue Cross and Molina Healthcare through the exchange. Most of our producers are appointed with Premera, but you may want to get a Molina appointment as they are expanding to nine more counties and plan on more than doubling their sales in 2017. 

Consider referring individual clients rather than selling
For many producers, the time has come to switch markets to Medicare, small group or other lines and start referring individual clients rather than wade through the exchange process.
