Olympic 2018 Propaganda Games

The Olympics are one big political demonstration—but for the rulers of the respective countries, not their citizens. While leaders get to preen at sending delegations to compete, or hosting the games, they strip the athletes themselves from any political speech for the brief moment they appear on a global platform that millions of people around the world might see.

The Olympics allow participating nations to stand on a world stage, despite some of them being repressive authoritarian states that keep their citizens in check with fear and unchecked power. This year, for example, the Olympics allowed North Korea to again put forward athletes to compete. Apparently, the gross human rights violations committed by the North Korean government, such as enslavement, torture, imprisonment, rape, and forced abortion, were not enough to keep the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from pretending everything is ok. Though an argument can be made that denying North Korea the right to participate would amount to punishing its athletes for the atrocities of the regime, a stronger argument is that the regime needs to be called out for its crimes, which could, in the long run, bring about change that leads to quality of life improvements for all North Koreans.

The alliance of North and South Korean Olympic hockey teams was skating on thin ice Saturday when cheerleaders from the Hermit Kingdom appeared to wear masks depicting the nation’s first Communist leader, Kim Il Sung.

The cheerleaders — dubbed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s “army of beauties” — were rooting on the Korean hockey team composed of players from the North and South as they got trounced by Switzerland.

The cheer squad whipped out masks depicting a young man’s face during a rendition of the Korean song “Whistle,” and local media reported it was the likeness of Kim Il Sung — sparking protests by those fearing that the North would only use the Games as a propaganda tool, according to Yonhap News Agency.

North Korean Propaganda: U.S. Media Outlets Swoon for Kim Yo-jong

The 2018 Winter Olympics are in full swing and Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and head of their Propaganda and Agitation Department, had bizarrely become a liberal media darling. Despite the fact her job entailed censorship and glorifying public executions, numerous outlets had touted her for “stealing the show,” winning “diplomatic gold,” being the “Ivanka Trump of North Korea,” and hyping the extremely creepy North Korean cheerleading group.

As part of the North Korean delegation to the Games, a massive cheerleading squad numbering more than 200 was admitted. And they too drew the admiration of the media. As ABC News did when they touted the group: “Clad in coordinated outfits of red with white and blue accents, North Korea's throng of more than 200 cheerleaders are stealing the spotlight at the 23rd Winter Olympic Games in South Korea as they chant, sway and dance in unison.

People Have Always Hated the Olympics

Protests are an important part of Olympic history. Activists help politicize and publicize the social, environmental and economic consequences of the Games. Over time, the issues that protesters have adopted have shifted from who can and can’t compete to the belief that the global sporting spectacular, in alliance with over-blown urbanism and city branding, has become a disaster. Here are few examples of protests to Olympics over the years.

The main reason cities want to host the Olympics is that, perhaps against the odds, they are wildly popular with the voters who foot the bill. The IOC found that public support for hosting the games was around 70% in Tokyo, 76% in Madrid and 83% in Istanbul. Londoners, sometimes a cynical bunch, were in favour of the 2012 games, in spite of dissent from some quarters (including this newspaper, which recommended leaving it to Paris). At the end of last year, with the crowds departed, eight out of ten said it was worth the extraordinary cost, even as cuts to public services began to bite. Popularity aside, Olympic bids often have other agendas. The Beijing games were intended to show off China’s spending and organisational power. London’s games were a means of bringing back to life a poor part of the capital at a speed that defied normal budgets and planning regulations. Tokyo hopes the 2020 games can gee up Japan’s lacklustre economy.
  • The International Olympic Committee is a hotbed of corruption
  • The games exist to feed corporate greed...
  • ...At the expense of the host nations
  • The Games have become a propaganda tool
  • Cheating is rampant among both athletes and judges
  • The 2016 Games are sending Brazil into chaos
  • The IOC can't protect fans or athletes
The Olympics are meant to show the best humanity has to offer. But between corporate greed, organizational malfeasance, and political grandstanding, the spirit of the Games has been trampled into the ground. Hopefully at some point the systemic corruption of the IOC can be cleaned up and the Games can be restored to their glorious ideals. But until that happens, the Olympics will continue to take home the gold medal in corruption.

Why North Korea has already won the Winter Olympics

North Korea’s other big action to celebrate the Olympics was a giant military parade that took place on January 8th, just a day before the Opening Ceremony. The parade was highlighted by a show of the intercontinental ballistic missiles Hwasong-15. The four missiles, atop nine-axled launchers, have the projected range of more than 8,000 miles, putting the U.S. east coast in its range.

It’s not hard to get the message sent by the parade: North Korea is not to be underestimated. North Korea’s President Kim Jong-un pointed that out as well by stating that his country has become a "world-class military power,” according to BBC.

In general, the U.S. and its allies were against the North Korean parade being held, calling it provocative. Indeed, the North Koreans moved up the date of the parade, which celebrates the founding of the Korea People’s Army, from its usual date in April.

Who is Kim Jong-un’s sister Kim Yo-jong? North Korea’s propaganda director attending Winter Olympics 2018

Kim Yo-jong first gained prominence when she was pictured several times mourning her late father during his funeral in December 2011.

Her first job title given in a state news address was a "senior official" of the ruling Workers' Party  Central Committee.

She has filled in for her brother when he was sick and has played a high-level supporting role to him.

In November 2014, Kim was named vice director of the Workers Party's Propaganda and Agitation Department and became its head months later.

Her job is to pump out propaganda both venerating her brother and the North Korean state and discrediting enemies.

Could anyone have anticipated that media liberals would be celebrating a member of the brutal Kim regime on the front pages of America's newspapers?  Everyone knows the press hates President Trump. But who knew they hated him enough to make a hero out of one of the most deadly dictators in history?

"Without a word, only flashing smiles, Kim Jong Un's sister outflanked Vice President Mike Pence in diplomacy," was the headline at the New York Times.  The Washington Post called the sister, Kim Yo Jong, the "Ivanka Trump of North Korea," and described her as "captivating."

"Kim Jong Un's sister is stealing the show at the winter Olympics," trumpeted CNN.

No doubt, "stealing the show" is an improvement over the Kims' usual approach — for instance, using poison to assassinate family members at foreign airports.

 GOP Adopts Democrat
Big Deficit Spending

If you ever had doubts that the Federal Government experiment has failed, the bipartisan busting of the budget has made it clear that Congress abdicates their sacred duty to defend the nation from internal enemies of the people. Forget the preposterousness argument that the United States must have the most expensive military to expand the evil empire that has been built up since the end of World War II. Real national defense starts at our own water's edge and needs to relinquish any absurd notion that our own safety is enhanced by having deployments to every corner of the globe. As long as the State Department expands their interventionism, diplomacy is scarified upon the alter of continuous military bombing. Eliminating the restrains of sequesters to tamp down the size and intrusions of gun boat intimidation are a step backward. Actual national defense is diminished by the garrison bases located far from our own homeland.

Illinois' Fiscal Crisis Impacts Business

Illinois has been shackled with a reputation of political sleaze from Chicago Wards and dishonest Aldermen to the bipartisan corruption of Springfield State Capital. The pattern of crooked government is a given. What is often ignored is the negative impact and toll that such fiscal mismanagement takes on small business. Back in 2014 Illinois was already at the bottom of the barrel. “Business friendly” may not describe the Land of Lincoln after it ranks second from last in a new study. The Chicago-based research group, American Economic Development Institute, ranked Illinois the 49th worst state for business just ahead of California. While facilitating an environment that encourages small business is important, sound budgetary policies and pragmatic governmental debt ratios are essential.

New Cold War with a Different Enemy

As all the alarm bells ring continuously that the Russian Federation is the cause for the latest cold war, the actual risk for a hot conflict or an intentional brinkmanship of worldwide proportions should focus on the real enemy of humanity. The Brexit campaign was about more than just leaving the European Union.  Likewise, the Trump movement is about a great deal more than just keeping Hillary Clinton from the oval office. Formerly the nation-state was the organizational format for government. Europe emerged from the dark ages to carve out kingships and spend centuries of warring with mostly bloodline relatives. When the bonds of feudalism loosened and economic advancement expanded the enlightenment of human thinking altered the political landscape. Notions of democratic principles germinated into ushering aside Kaisers, Czars and Kings. The popular vote in a strange ritual came to be known as an election, was culturally adopted as registering the popular will of the people.

Washington Post, CNN, NPR, PBS all praise murderous North Korea and its slave state leaders

You know why they praise North Korea? Because that’s the kind of totalitarian society they want in the United States, run by radical left-wing tyrants like Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. These are the same lying, left-wing propaganda rags that routinely attack the Constitution, the American flag, America’s founders, U.S. military veterans, Democracy and President Trump. But they praise North Korea’s murderous regime which relies on state-run media mind control over its population to remain in power.

Throughout our own history, the American media have all-too often done exactly that. Monstrous tyrants such as Joseph Stalin, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Mao Tse-tung, Yasser Arafat, and Ho Chi Minh, have all enjoyed rock star coverage from our media.

In our disillusioning modern world, where it’s too easy to look up what life is actually like in the remote real places that used to serve our desire for utopias, Americans now apparently feel the need to believe in CGI movie fictions, such as Wakanda, a technologically advanced isolationist kingdom in northeastern Africa featured in […]

It’s a truth of modern post-America that criticizing Political Correctness not only endangers your career, but enables Social Justice Warriors to demand concessions from your employers. Thus “conservative” Fox News pulled an op-ed by its own executive editor and executive vice-president John Moody which criticized the U.S. Olympic Committee for obsessing about “Diversity” a.k.a. Affirmative […]

Re-dumb-licans and Demo-craps alike, thank yourselves for being complacent and over-tolerant, thus allowing a government to fail you for decades, to the point that failure became both normal and acceptable.  We elect people as if it’s a popularity contest, because they look different, are a celebrity or tell us what we want to hear at any given moment….and people are just dumb enough to believe them.  Problem is any truly qualified presidential candidate wants no part of what is today no more than a Political Mafia.

“We in the ECB are certainly concerned about attempts by the United States to politically influence the exchange rate,” Nowotny told Austrian broadcaster ORF.

“That was a theme of economic discussions in Davos, where the ECB addressed this, and it will certainly be a theme at the upcoming G20 summit.”

In 2017, for the first time in the post-Tea Party era, Republicans finally gained unified control of government. They spent months blundering on healthcare, and ultimately reneged on their eight-year promise to repeal Obamacare. They have now agreed on a deal with Democrats that would blow up the spending caps that were a legacy of the Tea Party movement — to the tune of $300 billion over the next two years.
