Anybody can spin up a social media account, but using it strategically is another beast. There's a lot of power in social, it's democratized the design industry and frees designers from being tied to a specific location just to be seen. Curating the right content can super boost your career outside of the 9-5. Join us for a panel on using social media to promote yourself, find new opportunities, and stay sane in the process. We'll discuss the in's and out's of navigating Instagram, LinkedIn, and perhaps a few lesser known platforms. More

Adult Mask Making Classes - 6:30 PM
Art Side Out Studio & MASK SHOP since 1986 has been making masks and mask makers in Chicago. I offer Thursday night adult, BYOB mask making classes at three levels, Beginning ~ Intermediate & Advanced. most Thursday nights. The first two levels are two hour classes offered in a three hour time slot, for you to use as you like. Tuition $200 for 8 weeks... The third level is for those who have taken the first two classes, know the way the studio works, and have personal projects to do. Tuition $30/night. More

Behind the Model: Reconstructing the 1893 World's Fair - 10:00 AM
Dr. Lisa Snyder will discuss the technology and research behind her rich computer reconstruction of the 1893 World Columbian Exposition’s White City. The reconstruction allows interactive exploration of Chicago’s legendary exposition and enables unprecedented opportunities for teaching and learning. Using the model as illustration, Snyder will highlight both key features of the reconstruction and the archival resources that informed the project. More

Interactive Story/Text-Based Game Making Workshop - 1:00 PM
In this workshop led by VGA teaching artist Eden Ünlüata-Foley, participants will learn how to use Twine, a simple tool for making text-based games, or in other words, interactive nonlinear stories. Participants learn how interactive narratives differ from other media and work on creating their own. Have fun developing a story while learning how to add static and animated images. No programming experience is required. We will have limited number of computers on hand and ask participants to bring their own laptop if they are able. Free and open to all. More

Opening Reception: Everyone's a Designer/Everyone's Design - 1:30 PM
Everyone’s a Designer/Everyone’s Design is a free traveling museum exhibition that explores and celebrates everyday Chicagoans’ influence on art and design in the city. Join us for the ultimate “house party” as the exhibition reaches its final home, the “People’s Palace,” the Chicago Cultural Center. Add your own personal style to the exhibition through a free family-friendly activity hosted by the Society of Smallness. More

Granny Squared Crochet Class! - 1:00 PM
The snow has begun to fall and now it's time to get to work on your fuzzy gloves, scarves and hats! Join us at The WasteShed, a creative reuse center, as we host the extremely talented Ashley Marisco!! This class will give you the confidence to pick up a hook and complete a simple crochet project. First, Ashley will walk you through making a foundation chain and when you feel comfortable we will move on to the granny square pattern where you will learn different stitches and their abbreviations. She will bring in many examples of her work to help inspire any ideas that you have been wanting to bring to life. Workshops are $18 a person and please RSVP to hold your spot. Ticket includes all workshop supplies!! More
