Dry Air Clay Class (Ages 7-10) - 4:00 PM
In this class, we will learn basic hand-building skills utilizing air-dry clay. We will learn both coil building and slab rolling to build dimensionally. Over the course of the several weeks we will discuss the methods of making with clay and work to create sculptures. On the first day we will sketch several creatures and in the following weeks, we will work to construct them in clay. Once they dry, the pieces will be painted and finalized. The course aims to reveal basic methods in clay and allow the students to use their imaginations to build their own fantastic creatures. Cost: $170 More

Design Museum Presents: Biking for Change and Empowerment - 6:00 PM
Hear from panelists from FrankenToyMobile, West Town Bikes, Bikes ‘n Roses, Mobile Street Art Cart Project, and The Recyclery about how Chicagoans are using bicycles to make change and empower people locally and globally. Associated with Keep Moving, Design Museum Presents is the second of three discussions focused on contemporary cycling in Chicago. More

Chi Hack Night - 6:00 PM
The Chi Hack Night is a free, weekly event in Chicago to build, share and learn about civic tech and tools to create, support, or serve public good. Join us every Tuesday from 6-9:30pm on the 8th floor of the Merchandise Mart to hear from interesting speakers, learn from each other and work on civic projects. Non-techies are very welcome! Drop-in Ceramics/ Wheel - 6:30 PM
Every Tuesday from 6:30-8pm you can join us to learn wheel throwing basics. Get centered with this meditative artform. Ages 16 and up. No sign up required. $35 per person can be paid onsite and includes instruction, 3 lbs of clay, glaze and firing. More

Open to the public! Come see what Pumping Station One is all about. Bring your questions, enthusiasm, and curiosity. We give a tour of the space after the member meeting, stick arond for 300 Seconds of Fame, our open-mic night for presentations. More

Artmaking Studio Day Every Wednesday: Make & Meet at AnySquared - 3:00 PM
FREE Artmaking Session EVERY WEDNESDAY Drop in hours begin at 3pm until 10pm Supporting Artists for 7 years. Stop in. Make Art. Meet People. Brainstorm Projects. Plot Liberation. Be Social or Stay Focused. Supplies Available. We have plenty of basic supplies to share, but you are welcome to bring your own and make, share ideas, discuss possible collaborations. This weekly event gives ladies a space to code together. Whether you're just getting started, or are a veteran in the tech world, there's a seat for you at the table. BYOL: Bring your own laptop! You don't have to be working on any project or learning anything new to come to Hack Night, it's a great space to just hang out with other women who code. More

South Side Hackerspace: Chicago Weekly Meeting - 7:00 PM
Wednesday night meetings are an open house, a brief meeting about hackerspace business, and a general time to meet and chat with members and non-members who felt like dropping by. It's also a pretty good time for members to get certified on equipment. More

Adult Mask Making Classes - 6:30 AM
Art Side Out Studio & MASK SHOP since 1986 has been making masks and mask makers in Chicago. I offer Thursday night adult, BYOB mask making classes at three levels, Beginning ~ Intermediate & Advanced. most Thursday nights. The first two levels are two hour classes offered in a three hour time slot, for you to use as you like. Tuition $200 for 8 weeks... The third level is for those who have taken the first two classes, know the way the studio works, and have personal projects to do. More

Mokena SpaceLab Public Hack Night - 7:00 PM

Grant Writing for a Stronger Community - 1:00 PM
Art on Sedgwick is pleased to present a grant writing workshop facilitated by Barry A. Benson of Greater Reach Consulting, longtime nonprofit/NGO consultant to emerging organizations in the U.S. and Latin America. The session offers the basics on writing grant proposals, including research and readiness, grant execution, and the psychology of good grant making. In place of registration fees, attendees will be asked to provide a final project grant proposal on behalf of Art on Sedgwick (or one of our partners, if they invited you). Proposals will be written collaboratively with Benson's review and oversight, and will be submitted to foundations as funding requests. This workshop works best for people with good writing skills and an interest in the not-for-profit sector. Benson has trained more than 700 grant writers and has helped launch development careers for dozens. He frequently hires freelance grant writers from his sessions. Session is limited to 12 people. Attendance at both sessions is required. If possible, please bring a laptop. More

The Last Goodbye Virtual Reality Exhibition - 10:00 AM
The Last Goodbye is a virtual reality exhibition featuring Holocaust Survivor Pinchas Gutter’s visit to the site of the Nazi death camp Majdanek in Poland. This precedent-setting, fully immersive experience enables viewers to walk alongside Gutter as he travels through the railway car, gas chamber, shower room and barracks of Majdanek, the last place he saw his immediate family. Immerse yourself in this emotional virtual reality experience through January 27, 2019.  More

Anna Anthropy's Game Remix Night Featuring Dads - 6:00 PM
Please make sure to RSVP and try to come closer to 6pm so you can be accommodated and introduced into a game. It's easier for everyone and you won't have to wait around. If you know you're going to be late, let us know on the event page. FREE casual Biweekly experimental game shindig. Free refreshments. Come with an open mind and desire to play some eccentric games in which the rules might change. Past events have included remixed chess, Settlers of Catan with landmines, Johan Sebastian Joust in heavy fog and darkness. You're more than welcome to bring your own game. Cardboard and masking tape highly encouraged. The long term goal of this meetup is to tap into the game development creative process through bending rules and informal playtesting. More
