Adult Mask Making Classes - 6:30 AM
Art Side Out Studio & MASK SHOP since 1986 has been making masks and mask makers in Chicago. I offer Thursday night adult, BYOB mask making classes at three levels, Beginning ~ Intermediate & Advanced. most Thursday nights. The first two levels are two hour classes offered in a three hour time slot, for you to use as you like. Tuition $200 for 8 weeks... The third level is for those who have taken the first two classes, know the way the studio works, and have personal projects to do. Tuition $30/night. More

Chicago Reader Freelancer Open House - 6:00 PM

Art, Incarceration, and Teaching in Prisons - 1:45 PM
On Friday, January 11, 2019, the DePaul Humanities Center will host a workshop with DePaul Humanities Center Visiting Fellow Melissa Lorraine devoted to questions of art, mass incarceration, and teaching in prisons. The goal of the workshop is to think together about questions related to teaching--and especially the role of teaching and the arts--in prisons, with the four facilitators initiating group discussion rather than presenting formal lectures. Please let me know if you are interested. We have limited seating in the conference room and may not be able to accommodate everyone. Family Day: Magic Carpet - 11:00 AM
** This event is free.** Adventure through time and space or just cozy up with a book. Story Time with Drag Queens reads picture book favorites from the MCA store. Weave emotional armor and build a fabric castle with Katie Vota. Transform a clay and carpet family scene with Liz McCarthy. Create a family collage with Zakkiyyah Najeebah. Discover new works on show with the Coyote Scavenger Hunt. and more! Family Days are free monthly programs for kids and their grownups where Chicago artists transform the museum. Enjoy free admission while taking part in workshops, open studio sessions, gallery tours, and performances, all designed and led by Chicago artists. Family Days are the second Saturday of every month through the spring, from 11 am–3 pm. More

Live Storytelling: Everyone's a Designer/Everyone's Design - 1:30 PM
Everyone’s a Designer/Everyone’s Design is a free traveling museum exhibition that explores and celebrates everyday Chicagoans’ influence on art and design in the city. We want YOU to contribute to the exhibition! Bring an object and its story from your home to the Chicago Cultural Center at this live storytelling event and meet the people who’ve shared their objects and stories from the Calumet Park, Indian Boundary Line Park, Austin Town Hall, and Tuley Park communities. The object can be anything that reflects how you turned your home into a space that reflects your own history, culture, and community. Your object and and your story will be added to the exhibition during its time at the Cultural Center. More

Know Your Pollinators Class with Bike a Bee - 2:00 PM
What do squash, melons, almonds, apples, peaches, peppers, tomatoes, and honey have in common? For one thing, none of them would exist without the hard work of pollinators! It is estimated that pollinators help to produce one of every three bites of food that humans consume. That makes them incredibly important for food security and ecosystem sustainability. Bees, one of our most prolific pollinators, are in danger. Come learn why and discuss what you can do to help, right here in Chicago! Join Brittany Buckles, trained Entomologist and Education & Outreach Coordinator with Bike a Bee, for this hour-long class consisting of an educational presentation and discussion activities all about pollinators! You'll also be able to view honey bees up close in Plant Chicago's classroom observation hive. More

It’s turning chilly and the summer cars are being stored away. Does that really need to mean the car shows will end? We see no reason for that. Afterall, we have a heated garage! So, during the winter season, we invite you to bring whatever car you drive in the cold to enjoy Cars & Coffee Winter Mornings presented by Gearhead Workspace. Gather with friends and fellow gearheads to discuss why you love your winter vehicle or what you miss most about summer. 8:00-10:00 a.m. on the second Sunday of every month until Spring. More

Japanese Calligraphy (書道 - Shodo) - 1:00 PM
The Japanese Culture Center is excited to announce a brand new 書道 - Shodo / Japanese Calligraphy program with Chicago's own Shodo master, Hekiun Oda! $120.00 per month (4 classes each month) +$100 one time fee for tools and supplies if needed Dues are paid monthly for 4 classes held in that month.
