National Housing Day

Tuesday, November 22nd was National Housing Day! We all need to stand up for improving access to the affordable rental housing market that is primarily targeted to low income renter households, vulnerable populations and hard to house individuals and families.

On Monday, November 21st, Bethlehem Housing attended an event to discuss innovative solutions to the shortage of affordable housing. Earlier this month our Executive Director and Program Manager attended the 2016 CAEH Conference in London, Ontario. This National Conference on Ending Homelessness arms policy makers, funders, researchers, advocates, community leaders and front line workers with the inspiration, information, tools and training they need to end homelessness.

Donor Recognition Event

We are astounded by the devotion of our many loyal donors that have been supporting Bethlehem Housing for over 10 years, of which 160 have been giving for more than 20 years.

This past Sunday we celebrated these loyal donors who have been giving for more than 10 years with an afternoon tea event held at the St. Catharines Club. The event featured an afternoon of networking, pastries, and a variety of teas generously donated by Gwen’s Teas. We also had a table featuring fascinators, handcrafted by Anne, which added an element of fun and elegance to the event.

It is because of the faithful support of our donors that we are able to continue to grow and accelerate our efforts to set more families on the path to long-term health, safety and independence.

Join the movement dedicated to giving back!

Giving Tuesday is a new Canadian movement where charities, companies and individuals join together to share commitments, rally for favourite causes and think about others. It celebrates and encourages donations and volunteering activities that support charities and non-profit organizations.

Housing is the foundation on which we build our lives, engage in society and contribute to the economic well-being of our community. When everyone has an affordable, safe place to live, we all benefit. Right now, 4,600 families — about 11,000 people — are on the wait list for rent-geared-to-income housing in the region of Niagara.

Bethlehem Housing and Support Services is an active part of the solution. We need your help to accelerate our efforts and set more families on the path to long-term health, safety and independence. Click here to donate today.

Congratulations Courtney!

Earlier this month the BHSS team celebrated Courtney, our Intake Support Worker, as she anticipates the arrival of her twin boys due at the beginning of January!

As the Intake Support Worker, Courtney acts as the first point of contact for individuals interested in learning more about Bethlehem Housing. She continually assesses the needs of people who contact the agency, helping to ensure they are connected to the appropriate support services. She provides referrals to community partner agencies when their needs fall outside of the scope of the work done at BHSS. Courtney has also provided support to a few clients on an ongoing basis as a Community Support Worker.

Congratulations Courtney! Enjoy your time off with your new twin boys and the rest of your family!
