At Gordon Neighbourhood House we evaluate the impact of our work together using a variety of methods.

Here is a snapshot of some of the fun we had in June 2015:

So far this month, we've harvested chard, lettuce, bok choy, spinach, kale, carrots, broccoli, garlic, and all kinds of herbs that we were able to use for The Community Lunch Program and Pop-up Produce Stand.
66% of Gordon Neighbourhood House’s Community Lunch guests indicated that it would be more difficult for them to meet their nutritional needs without the lunch program.
We had over 180 different children and caregivers attend Creative Playtime (drop-in). 77% of the caregivers/parents believe that their children’s social and emotional skills have improved as a result of attending the program.

GNH Annual General Meeting

September 9, 2015 at 6:30pm

Thank you to our friends at The United Way of the Lower Mainland for their ongoing support of Gordon Neighbourhood House. Each year, The United Way of the Lower Mainland connects Gordon Neighbourhood House with volunteer groups through their Days of Caring Initiative. This year, volunteers helped us keep our West End streets clean! Our relationship with the United Way of the Lower Mainland is one of our oldest - they have been a long time funder of our work. Thanks for all that you do in support of our community!

Thank you to our friends at Canada Green Building Council, The City of Vancouver, The Vancouver Foundation and Daisy's Landscaping for helping us build and plant three NEW publicly accessible Community Herb Gardens in the West End. ‪#togetherwegrow‬

Gordon Neighbourhood House is embarking on an ambitious project to convert grass into food growing spaces in the West End. Interested in getting involved? Please contact us at

Check out our latest blog Entry on Elders' Abuse Awareness Day

“This event brought together people who are working to eradicate elder abuse for the very first time in a social setting,” noted Heidi McDonell. “It was great to see everyone dedicated to this issue in one room. It was very inspirational knowing that we are not alone and are all working together, the workload immediately felt lifted.”

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the most important resource a community organization has. The ability to work willingly together for the betterment of their community and themselves is a valuable resource. We strive to match volunteer applicants with rewarding roles that align with their strengths to provide meaningful experiences for themselves, and positive benefits for our organization and community.

Current Openings include:

- Attic Thrift Store Volunteer
- Outreach and Awareness Volunteer
- Foodraising Team Member

West End Families in Action (WEFA) meet with local MLA Spencer Chandra-Herbert

WEFA was formed in May 2014. It is led by West End families with the support of Gordon Neighbourhood House. WEFA’s mandate is to act as an advisory body to identify and suggest solutions to gaps and barriers that impede the full participation of children and their families in the West End and beyond.

Summer Camp staff training is in full swing this week in preparation for campers' arrival on Monday. The schedule is set and we are looking forward to many outdoor adventures! Next week's theme is sustainability week and will include a nature scavenger hunt amongst the old-growth trees in Lynn Canyon, and a chance for campers to do some gardening and plant some seeds. Throughout the summer we will be learning about local food production and visiting UBC Farm, Maplewood Farm, Capilano Hatchery, as well as Emma Lea berry farm in Delta.
