Thank you to everyone who made the 2014 West End Food Festival a huge success!

A very special thank you to this year's West End Food Festival presenting sponsor, our friends at the West End Branch of Vancity Credit Union. Kathryn and Adanma, you and your team are tireless advocates of our community and we thank you for all that you do and for your continued support!

Thank you and congratulations to Andrew Christie (GNH's Community Food Advocate) and his awesome team of dedicated volunteers, GNH Staff and community partners who spent countless hours organizing this year's festival.

The Seniors Support Fund

There are a growing number of seniors in our community that struggle to meet their basic food and clothing needs. While much of our work focuses on challenging the systemic factors that contribute to the challenges that West End seniors face, we also recognize the immediate need that exists in our community. Please consider making a contribution to the Seniors Support Fund. A donation as little as $5 can help to provide a hot meal to a local senior in need.

All donations over $20 are eligible for a Charitable Tax Receipt. There are a variety of ways to donate to the Seniors Support Fund. For more information or to make a contribution to the fund please contact Jessy Scaria (Staff Liaison to the GNH Seniors Advisory Committee) via email at or by calling 604-683-2554.

GNH’s Urban Farming Report

We are delighted to say that the first summer at the urban farm at Jervis and Davie was a success! We managed to contribute fresh produce each week to the community lunches, and were able to engage a wide variety of community members in the growing process. Some of you may have noticed Susanna Millar (GNH’s Lead Farmer) selling freshly harvested salads in bags for 25-cents on Wednesdays at the pay-what-you-can lunches.

We are working toward a fall and winter harvest including kale and carrots, cabbage and broccoli. In store for next season: garlic and onions! This summer has taught us how pesky insects can be, but how inspiring it is to see that first head of broccoli pop up through its leaves. We are looking forward to bringing this inspiration with us as we expand to a new urban farm site in just a few weeks. A huge thank you to our Volunteer Urban Farmers for making sure the plants don’t get thirsty, but also bringing the community together to share some laughs outside, and learn about growing our own food.

If you’re interested in learning more please contact Susanna at or by calling 604-683-2554.
