Kent Town awards two Paul Harris Fellows and a Sapphire pin!

At our joint meeting with the Rotary Club of St Peters this week, Club President Tegan Webb was pleased and privileged to present three members of Kent Town with awards recognizing their exceptional service above self and contribution to the Rotary Foundation and the community.

Kaylene Kranz and Greg Love were both honoured as Paul Harris Fellows and Rotary Club of Kent Town f
ounding member Chris Harris was presented with a Sapphire pin. To top off the night of celebrations, we also welcomed our newest member and recent RYLArian Kaitlin Piggott.

On behalf of all members and friends of the Club, congratulations to Chris, Kaylene, Greg and Kaitlin!

IT'S ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH!

The Rotary Foundation has funded thousands of sustainable projects to enhance health, empower youth, promote peace and advance communities around the world.
 
Over the last year, Rotary members from around the world have taken action by:

  • Training healthcare professionals in West Africa.
  • Delivering low-cost eye care for children in Mumbai, India.                                                           
  • Providing washing stations and latrines in Guatemala.                                                     
  • Establishing a dental clinic in Mexico.  
  • Vaccinating children around the world against polio.

To change even more lives in your community and around the world, the Foundation is asking for our help and continued leadership. The 2013-14 Annual Fund goal is US$120 million and to reach this goal we need the participation and financial support of every Rotarian. You can make a one-time or recurring gift to the Annual Fund online by going to www.rotary.org/give

ROTARY SPOTLIGHTS THE FIGHT TO END THE DISEASE

Rotary helped put polio eradication on center stage on the day best known for rallying support to finish the job. On 24 October, a special Livestream presentation – World Polio Day: Making History – showcased the progress of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

LEARN ABOUT FLINDERS UNIVERSITY FAIRTRADE SOCIETY

Join the Adelaide City Rotaract Club for their next meeting with guest speaker Will Menzies from the Finders University Fairtrade Society. 

Will is the President of the Society and has been actively involved in promoting the sale of fairtrade products at the University. Recently, the Society managed to convince the Uni Cafe, Wholefoods, to make the shift to fairtrade coffee. The Society has also recently hosted a Fairtrade and Foreign Aid Forum and were joined by Greens Senator Penny Wright, who praised the Society's passion for global issues.

The Rotary Club of Morialta invite you to have breakfast in the park for ShelterBox Australia, who are currently deploying to millions of Syrian families are caught up in what the UNHCR has called "the biggest refugee crisis of this century".

RIDE WITH A VISION

Honorary Member for the Rotary Club of Norwood Mark Marston and his partner Amanda set off in mid October to ride from Adelaide to Melbourne raising funds for the Little Heroes Foundation. On the way, they will visit schools and conduct workshops around following your passion, aligning with your values, giving gratitude, goal setting and vision boarding.

PANDORA'S PROMISE SCREENING

Every so often, we get the opportunity to take part in a promoting a discussion on an issue that polarizes community. Pandora’s Promise is a film not to be missed. A feature-length documentary about the history and future of nuclear power. The film explores how and why mankind's most feared and controversial technological discovery is now passionately embraced by many of those who once led the charge against it.
