New Masters Programme
MRes Architecture and Digital Theory
|
|
The Bartlett School of Architecture is delighted to announce that the new MRes Architecture and Digital Theory is currently in its first year, and we now welcome enquiries and applications from full-time and part-time students wishing to enrol in autumn 2016.
This intensive, 12-month Masters by Research (MRes) programme, led by Professor Mario Carpo and Professor Frédéric Migayrou, is specifically dedicated to the theory, history, and criticism of digital design and digital fabrication. It provides a grounding in research for students trained in the design professions, or with a primary background in digital technology, in the digital humanities, or in curatorial studies, who wish to further their understanding of digital innovation. In its inaugural years the programme will focus on the challenge of complexity in computational design, and on its aesthetic, technological, economic and epistemological implications.
Research topics currently under consideration include:
- Agent-based conception
- The new sciences of simulation, optimisation and form-finding
- The transdisciplinary scalability of computational models
- Robotics and the engineering and modelisation of new materials and of variable property materials
- The history of digital notations and of the software and hardware for computer-based design and fabrication
- The Epistemological and aesthet implications of the current data-driven
computational environment
