ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Aya Sugino is an Ikebana artist who has been teaching Ikebana since 2010 while also working as an interior designer. Aya blended her Ikebana skills with her experience as an interior designer, bringing about a perfect marriage of her two passions. She puts emphasis on teaching and on the joy and wonder of creation. Aya is a certified teacher from Sogetsu Ikebana School in Tokyo and holds the rank of Teacher’s Diploma 1st grade Somu. Aya is also an active teaching member of the Sogetsu Ikebana Teachers’ Association.

  • Unearth Uncover presented by Museums of Mississauga | September 22nd - November 6th
    📍Bradley Museum
    Check out Museums of Mississauga's Unearth Uncover, an exhibition to bring attention to Black Canadian History. This exhibit formed a social justice program for students in partnership with Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA)'s Unearth Uncover Historical Plaque Projects. Students in the Black Student Association and Social Justice classes at Cawthra Park Secondary School were asked to create a visual art response to the project, and these submissions are on for viewing from Sept 22 - Nov 6 at the Bradley Museum.

    Hispanic Canadian Arts & Cultural Association is hosting an art show featuring the work of Latin women artists as part of our Hispanic/Latin American Heritage Month programming! The exhibit will feature work from three local artists: Adriana Rosselli, Ana Lopez, and Maria “Feru” Ibarra.     The Lakeshore Art Trail is back for another year! Join all the artists in one location over 2 days. This show of juried works was first established in 1999 as a collective of local artists exhibiting from their studios, and has since grown into a community celebration of art.

  • Stella Jurgen and the Jazz Plazma - Lakeview Farmers Market | October 23rd
    📍Small Arms Inspection Building (SAIB)
    Stella Jurgen and Jazz Plazma will be busking at the Lakeview Farmers' Market in the Small Arms Inspection Building on Sunday, October 23 from 10 AM - 1 PM. The local band has been raising funds to help save lives in Ukraine, 50% of the donations will be donated to buy medical supplies for hospitals. Almost $1,000 was raised to date with busking performances at the Port Credit Marina. Join them for some music and fresh produce at the Lakeview Farmers' Market and help with cash donations for a good cause.

    Be part of an upcoming group exhibition this January 2023! This course is designed for you to advance your art practice and focus on your professional skills that culminate in a group exhibition at VAM. Over an 9-week period, you will clarify your goals as an artist, define your career vision and develop a working plan that is unique to you. You will understand the importance of support material, learn how to document your artwork, explore exhibition venues, identify themes in your work, and gain insight and confidence into exhibition layout and promoting yourself. The class will regroup on January 25th with their artwork to prepare for the exhibition.
