I hope you are all keeping warm in this winter storm!

We have a bunch of new Calls/Opportunities to check out including some with deadlines approaching. Here are some highlights:
Have your say on the new Public Art at the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre! The City's Public Art Program is looking for feedback from Mississauga residents to help the art selection committee choose the winning design. The deadline to submit a survey is March 5 at 11:59 PM. Learn more and submit feedback here.

Applications are now OPEN for MAC's Spring 2023 MicroGrants & Matchmaker MicroGrants! The deadline to apply is Monday, April 3 by 5 PM. An information session will be held on March 7 at 3 PM over Zoom. Guidelines, criteria and submission forms located here.

  • Call for Emerging Artists - Public Art Banner Program - City of Mississauga | Deadline to submit is February 26 at 11:59 PM EST

    The City's Public Art Program invites emerging artists, artist teams, and illustrators to submit expressions of interest and concept proposals for original banner artwork. Banner artwork will be displayed on light pole standards throughout the city, creating a captivating visual presence from June to Winter 2023. The commissioned artist(s) will create six banner designs. The City will be responsible for all fabrication and installation. At the end of the program, the commissioned artist(s) will have the opportunity to shadow an established sculptural or textile-based artist, who will transform the banners into a new creation.

  • Call for Submissions: Visual Arts Mississauga's Member Theme Show | Deadline to submit is March 12

    Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) invites its members to participate in their upcoming member show Flourish taking place March 20 - April 9. VAM invites artists to share artwork that explores the idea of growth. This could be representational, or an abstraction of feelings, memories and stories. Submissions are due March 12.

  • Call for Artists: Visual Arts Mississauga's World Art Day Community Exhibition | Deadline to submit is March 19

    Calling all artists! Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) is inviting you to submit images of your 2-dimensional artwork for their World Art Day Community Exhibition! VAM would love to showcase the talented artwork of artists of all ages to celebrate World Art Day! They want to emphasize how important art is, promote different techniques and media, and support artists of all ages. Submissions are due March 19.

  • Call to Submit: Forms, Faces & Spaces Show as part of the Scotiabank Contact Festival | March 27 at midnight

    Join the 2nd annual juried show, "Forms, Faces & Spaces, figuratively speaking!" organized by E.C. Munson. They are seeking photography and fine artwork that speaks to humankind concerns, how we inhabit space, our vitality, and how we engage with daily life. The deadline to apply is March 27 at midnight.

  • Call for Entries: Visual Arts Mississauga's Art Calendar | Deadline to submit is March 31

    Calling all artists! Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) invites you to submit images of your 2-dimensional artwork for their inaugural Art Calendar Fundraiser. Artists based in GTHA are eligible to submit, 12 artworks will be chosen - one for each month of the year. Selected submissions will be featured in the VAM Gallery and online for an in-person and virtual exhibition. Submissions are due March 31.

  • Call for Submissions - Youth Poet Laureate - City of Mississauga | Deadline to submit March 1

    The City of Mississauga is now accepting applications for the City's fourth Youth Poet Laureate in 2023. The role of the Youth Poet Laureate is to serve as a literary ambassador for youth in the City and to elevate the status of poetry, literary arts, and young writers within their communities. This honorary position recognizes a young poet who writes excellent poetry or spoken word and has written on themes that are relevant to the citizens of Mississauga.

  • Call for Submissions - Ink Movement's Mississauga Youth Anthology 2023 | March 15

    Ink Movement has opened its submissions for its annual Mississauga Youth Anthology! Since 2012, Ink Movement has strived to give young artists and writers a larger platform for them to share their work. They’ve published multiple anthologies filled with incredible art and writing created by Mississauga youth The theme of this year’s anthology is Adapting. They are seeking work that covers the topic of dealing with life changes (or alternatively, COVID recovery). They are accepting submissions from Mississauga youth aged 12-24.

  • Call for Applications - Sawitri Theatre Group's Mississauga Multilingual Fringe Festival | Submissions due March 6

    The Mississauga Multilingual Fringe Festival (MMFF) is now in its 3rd year and applications are now OPEN! The MMFF is an uncensored, non-juried theatre festival, bringing together emerging and established artists alike to tell their stories on stage. Applications are due March 6.

  • Call for Nominations - MARTY Awards - Mississauga Arts Council | Nominations due March 13 at 9 AM

    Nominations for the 28th Mississauga Arts Award (MARTYS) are now OPEN! Professional artists and groups who are either residents of the City of Mississauga, have a significant connection to Mississauga or have made a major contribution to the arts within Mississauga are eligible to apply. MAC encourages artists and arts groups to submit their nomination with a letter of recommendation from their official nominator.

  • Call for Nominations - MBOT Awards - Creative City Business Award | Nominations due March 2 at 4 PM

    Nominate an outstanding Mississauga business for a Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) Creative City Business Award! This award is for a business or sponsor that has gone out of its way to support the arts, performances, festivals and public art that is not normally in those businesses.

    Calling all creatives! Applications are now OPEN for MAC's Spring 2023 MicroGrants & Matchmaker MicroGrants! MAC has announced a range of exciting opportunities in music, theatre, dance, visual arts, and arts for mental health programming, including a NEW Community Activation MicroGrant! MAC is also excited to return its Matchmaker MicroGrant program to all artistic practices. The deadline to apply is Monday, April 3 by 5 PM.
