This rare and splendid coral garden is easily damaged by heavy prawn / crab traps, ropes, and other fishing gear that hit the seabed. The Mamalilikulla First Nation has designated the area for protection under its own Indigenous laws, and is hoping that the federal government will announce protection before the fishing season ramps up in April.
