Welcome to Circle

Welcome to Circle's quarterly newsletter. Here you will find an overview of some of the latest happenings at Circle. This edition is filled with Christmas cheer and festive thanks.

#GivingTuesday & Christmas Appeal

This #GivingTuesday, our Patron Richard Jobson helped Circle raise money so we can provide festive hampers to the most vulnerable families we work with.
There is still time to get on board and make a donation to brighten Christmas for the families we support.

'Bringing the Zoo Home'
Book Launch

We were really pleased to officially launch the Circle Haven Project's fourth book 'Bringing the Zoo Home' this month. Congratulations to the families who took part in the creation of the book! Without them we wouldn't have the inspiration, ideas and story to take to publication.

Christmas Card
Competition Winner

Congratulations to this year’s winner Lucy, age 12, chosen by our Chief Executive Liz Dahl. Lucy's design was one of many creations received from children supported by Circle. We love your sparkly reindeer design! Check out all of the shortlisted entries here.

Festive Thanks to Christmas Donors!

Thank you to all those who donated toys and gifts for children and young people supported by Circle through Radio Forth Cash for Kids, Inverleith St Serf's Church, Edinburgh and Pilrig St Paul's Church, Edinburgh. Thanks also to the Salvation Army for food parcels and gifts for families we support. The quality and quantity of your gifts has been incredible!

Staff Development Day

Our end of year staff development day took place in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Hamilton. The event involved teams reflecting on the year and devising action plans for the coming year. Staff development days are instrumental in maintaining high levels of morale, and allow teams the opportunity to mix! It was also great to wish everyone a very merry Christmas.

Changes to Circle's Board of Trustees

Circle is delighted to welcome three new Trustees to its Board: Jacqui Gillies, Brigid Daniel and Nickola Paul.
We are sadly saying goodbye to Tracey Ashworth-Davies.

Circle families visit Social Bite's HOME

Circle families were treated to a delicious meal at Social Bite's HOME restaurant through their "Pay it Forward" initiative - a great way to spend a Monday afternoon! Thanks Zakia Moulaoui and team.

Thank you for Supporting
Circle in 2016
During 2016 Circle was happy to generate relationships from some new supporters which we hope to continue into 2017. Notable support has come from SPIFOX, the Newby Trust, Inspiring Scotland’s Go2Play Fund and Scotmid.
We are very grateful to Laurence McIntosh of Edinburgh which is the first business to sponsor the Circle Annual Lecture.
Thanks also to the Edinburgh Airport Community Fund, Caledonia Play and Morrison’s Supermarket who have been generous in their donations and to all of you who have made a donation to Circle helping us work towards our purpose to improve the lives of children by strengthening families.

Circle Harbour Project's Christmas Lunch!

40 people supported by the Harbour Team enjoyed a delicious 3 course Christmas lunch at Serenity Cafe. Children were kept entertained with facepainting and Christmas crafts, and all received a gift. A festive afternoon was enjoyed by families and staff alike!

Dinner with Dad

Families supported by Circle's Harbour Project enjoyed Dinner With Dad last month, spending some quality time with dad over some quality food! A huge thank you to Kilted Lobster for their support.

Circle Practice Learning

Our Practice Learning Project has been very busy recently with 11 students on placement with us. Circle has supported students from the Universities of Stirling, Edinburgh, Robert Gordons and Glasgow Caledonian. This creates a vibrant learning culture and we are grateful to our staff for their support with this. Learning and development is at the heart of Circle and we love this experience of learning from one another. For those students finishing their placement, we wish you luck in your future studies/work (!) and for those returning to us after Christmas, have a fantastic break.
