Hello <<First Name>>

Many of you will have now heard of the DevicesDotNow initiative coordinated by new coalition FutureDotNow. With FutureDotNow, we’ve supported over 1,700 isolated people to receive devices, delivered by 258 organisations within our network - making a real difference to people's lives. I know that keeping in touch and seeing the faces of your family and friends can help so much as we face a socially distanced world gripped by COVID-19. We’ve recently published our impact report for the first 8 weeks which highlights just a few of the wonderful stories of those who have benefitted from receiving devices.

It’s estimated that 1.9 million households in the UK don’t have access to the internet and we know that digitally excluded people are disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 crisis. That’s why this week our DevicesDotNow campaign is launching #4Faces4Devices challenge on social media - so we can create awareness and raise money to provide the most vulnerable people with phones and other devices. The idea is that you post 4 photos of those favourite faces you cannot do without, nominate them to do the same, and donate £4 to our Crowdfunder.

AbilityNet Tech4Good Awards
The AbilityNet Tech4Good Awards recognise the achievements of organisations and individuals who use technology to improve the lives of others. We’re pleased to announce that this year we’re sponsoring the Community Impact category to celebrate the fantastic work that organisations do to support the community. BT is the headline sponsor for the awards, alongside organisations such as Google, Microsoft and Charity Digital.

You can nominate yourself or another organisation and can make more than one nomination in the same or different categories. So, if you know of a community organisation that would be a great fit for the
Community Impact Award, why not nominate them? There are also 7 other categories, including the BT Young Pioneer Award, which is part of BT’s Skills for Tomorrow campaign. Nominations for the awards close on Tuesday 30 June at 5pm

Learn My Way resources - looking after your health online

With GP appointments moved temporarily to phone and video calling consultations during the pandemic, developing skills to keep in touch with others online is now more important than ever before. Learn My Way features an Improving your Health Online topic which demonstrates how you can make GP appointments online, order repeat prescriptions and find advice about specific symptoms and conditions. The course is also split into two subjects; GP services online and The NHS website.

We understand learning essential skills can be challenging, especially if you’ve just started your digital journey. The Learning Team at Good Things Foundation has put together a handy step by step video outlining how you can access information about your local GP, dentist and opticians, as well as demonstrating the benefits of the NHS app.

Test and trace scam messages

A couple of weeks ago the Government launched a Test and Trace service app which aims to contact individuals who may have come into contact with someone with symptoms of coronavirus. Shortly after the announcement, the media highlighted concern around scams asking for people to submit personal information. To help you identify genuine messages, take a read of the article to find out how you will be contacted, what to look out for and the information you will be asked.
