We are delighted to have Dr Iain McGilchrist as a keynote speaker at the 2022 AIMA Conference.

Iain is a psychiatrist, neuroscience researcher, philosopher and literary scholar who currently lives in Scotland. He is a Quondam Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, an Associate Fellow of Green Templeton College, Oxford, a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and former Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director at the Bethlem Royal & Maudsley Hospital, London.

He has been a Research Fellow in neuroimaging at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore and a Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Stellenbosch.  He has published original articles and research papers in a wide range of publications on topics in literature, philosophy, medicine and psychiatry.  He is the author of a number of books but is best-known for The Master and his Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World.

In November 2021 his two-volume work The Matter with Things: Our Brains, Our Delusions and the Unmaking of the World was published. This is a sustained critique of reductive materialism, and concerns such questions as ‘Who are we? What is the world? What is the nature of time and space? What do we mean by purpose, value and the divine? And how do we most reliably set about finding out?’

He is committed to the idea that the mind and brain can be understood only by seeing them in the broadest possible context, that of the whole of our physical and spiritual existence, and of the wider human culture in which they arise – the culture which helps to mould, and in turn is moulded by, our minds and brains.

Iain will be presenting at the 2022 AIMA Conference on Saturday 18th November on the topic of The divided brain and human meaning.

He will also host an interactive session exploring What has happened to values, and how can we find them again - an exploration into the fundamentals of health

Do not miss this opportunity to see one of today's great thinkers in person and explore his fascinating work. Book your tickets to the 2022 AIMA Conference today.

We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to The Ashton Wylie Charitable Trust who is sponsoring Iain's presence at the conference.
