2015 NEWS: Starting strong...
In January we completed the pastoral transition. Pr. Ángel has stepped into the role of lead pastor. Josh in now the associate pastor. After starting and leading the church for eight years, Josh will have more time to oversee and visit our sister churches in the Canaries and Murcia. Also, help lead the non-governmental organization (NGO) Nueva Luz y Vida. The NGO is the legal entity that gives coverage to ministries: Amor en Acción (Love in Action food pantry). The Logos Learning center (after school program) and Spain Cycle Tours, an outreach ministry to cyclists.
Bible Institute…
This year we are launching the John Wesley Bible Institute. We are establishing training centers in Madrid and Fuerteventura (Canary Islands). These centers will be hosted by our Rivas and Fuerteventura churches. We will provide training for new leaders that will implement Community Church Planting projects. Our first class was held in Fuerteventura with five students. There will be an intensive class held on a Saturday each month.
New Local Ministerial Candidates…
On Sunday, February 8th. We received two Local Ministerial Candidates (LMC). Husband and wife, Airam and Marta are gifted leaders in the Fuerteventura church. They will be responsible for the day-to-day at the church. While Pr. Carmelo takes on the new role of professor at the Bible Institute. Carmelo will also travel to Madrid to instruct the monthly class for the Bible institute.
If your spiritual gifts include teaching, and you would like to serve as professor for the Bible institute, please contact Josh for more information. (proficiency in Spanish is required).
Missionaries finish their assignment….
Fernando and Liliana completed a three-year assignment last week. Both are retired from secular jobs, and felt the call to serve in Spain a few years ago. They ministered at the Rivas church, while making occasional visits to our sister church in Lanzarote (Canary Islands). They served as Sunday school teachers, prayer coordinators, assisted with the Food Pantry and preached on occasion. They inspired us all with their willingness to serve and their physical endurance. They are both cancer survivors and shared “It was God’s plan for us to survive cancer, then it must be God’s plan for us to serve Him. We will go wherever He sends us” They will be missed! Friends, if you are retired and are hearing the call to serve…Serve him where you are, or maybe God is calling you to serve overseas…. Maybe, Spain?
Community Church Planting update…
Josh and a team of translators recently finished translating the CCP manual, Implementation Manual and Mobilizing Members to Make Disciples course. These are some of the core materials used for the CCP training. Having these in Spanish will accelerate the training for our national leaders. This was a six-month project. PTL for this accomplishment! Read more about CCP and founder Bruce Bennett.
Pr. Carmelo Palmés shares a brief testimony of how God has transformed his life. He is now leading our newest church plant in Fuerteventura (Canary Islands). He is developing leaders so they can start Community Church Plants on the islands.
