Welcome to the May 2016 edition of Bio-Link Community news!

Spring is a crazy time for all of us.  Finals are approaching, students are looking for internships or jobs.  There are letters to write and summer activities to plan.

But don't forget, in the middle of this hectic time, that Bio-Link and our new sibling, the AC2 Bio-Link Regional Center, have planned some exciting opportunities for learning and professional development.

For those of you that can't travel, I'll be doing a webinar next Friday to help you and your students learn about the job searching tools at Biotech-Careers.org and the new tools we're adding to the next version of the site.

You might also want to listen to our first webinar to hear an overview of Bio-Link and a discussion of the many resources Bio-Link has to offer.  Download the recording from the first webinar and the slides.

For those of you attending the Summer Fellows Forum, we have the agenda posted on the Bio-Link site along with maps and information about the venue.  This year's Summer Fellows Forum will be a day shorter because of BIO, but these will be two very action-packed days.  If you haven't registered yet, do it now!

As always, we're looking forward to seeing you in person, either in June or later on, at some of the workshops in July!

Bio-Link Webinar

Graduation is coming soon!   That's why we choose to highlight Biotech-Careers.org as the second webinar in our new series.

Register now, to make sure you get the email link, and join us online, Friday May 13th, at 1pm ET.

In this webinar, we will discuss information that can be found at Biotech-Careers.org and demonstrate how to use this web site to:
  • research different types of careers,
  • learn about people who work in those careers,
  • learn about the education requirements for various jobs,
  • learn how to find a college that offers the right degrees,
  • learn how to find a job or internship in biotechnology

We will also share examples where teachers are using Biotech-Careers.org as a tool to help students of all backgrounds imagine themselves in meaningful STEM careers and preview new features that we'll be launching in June when the next version of the site comes on-line.

CSO Caucus, July 22nd, Lexington, KY

In 2012, Bio-Link convened a group of educators to discuss creative strategies for supporting local companies and providing students with the workplace experience needed to prepare them for biotech jobs.  We learned about community college incubators, non-profit "companies", housing companies on-site and a variety of other strategies that were summarized in the Bio-Link 2012 CXO Summit report.  This summer, the Austin Community College Bio-Link Regional Center will be leading the effort to uncover what we have learned since 2012 and showcase efforts to build incubators at Austin Community College and Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Kentucky.
