Do Not Be Afraid!
Do you know the phrase that's most repeated in the Bible?
The answer might not come as a surprise to you - it's "Do not be afraid!". It is spoken by Jesus, God, angels, messengers, and people of God. In fact, that phrase shows up 365 times in the Bible. That's one for each day of the year! Clearly God knew we'd need regular, daily reminders that no matter what challenges surround us - we need to hear his words, "Do not be afraid!"
In Luke 5:1-11, our scripture passage for this week, Jesus looks into Peter's eyes and declares, "Do not be afraid." Peter had humbled himself before the Lord, recognizing Jesus' holiness and power, and his own fallenness and brokenness. Jesus' first response to Peter is, "Do not be afraid!"
Where do you find yourself this week? Are you concerned about finances and health? Are important decisions looming large without apparent answers? Do your prayers seem to go unanswered? Are you bowed down in anxiety and stress? Is your soul weary and wondering how to go on? Hear Jesus' words to you, "Do not be afraid!"
When life, stress, anxiety, questions and worry overwhelms - lean on our good God. Trust him. Seek him. Allow his words to quiet the world's words that are swirling in your heart and life. Do not be afraid!
