EHF

EHMTIC 2016, organised jointly by The Migraine Trust and the European Headache Federation, took place in Glasgow from 15-18 September 2016. Around 950 attendees followed a four-day program containing new insights in basic and clinical science. covering the latest available research, therapies and developments from internationally recognized leaders in the field.
The congress started with training courses on headaches in pediatrics and adolescents, secondary headaches and case based interactive sessions. The first highlight was the opening ceremony and the MacDonald Critchley lecture held by Prof. Michael Ferrari. who gave us new insights on “Migraine Quo vadis”.
This year the EHF special award has been awarded to Prof. Hans-Christoph Diener for his 32 years’ contribution in headache research, Prof. Diener gave us a review of past developments and a vision of the future.
the Jes Olesen lecture was based on the CGRP story, from discovery to migraine therapy. Prof. Lars Edvinsson gave an excellent talk on the importance role of CGRP in migraine.

A novelty was the joint meeting of EHF and EFIC. Chaired by Prof. Paolo Martelletti and Prof. Chris Wells we discussed TRP Channel regulation of CGRP positive neurons in pain and headache, neurovascular effects of CGRP and had a look inside CGRP and CGRP receptor in the trigeminovascular systems of the CNS.

This year the Enrico Greppi Award was given to Anna Steimberg from the Clinical Department of Neuroscience of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.  She talked about the “Expression of messenger molecules and receptors in rat and human sphenopalatine ganglion”.

Six Poster sessions were well organized and attended and showed many interesting research results in all headache entities.
