FDA Says Nicotine-Free E-Liquids Are Tobacco Products in 'Certain Circumstances'

NSW Cancer Council wants e-cigarettes to have the same restrictions as tobacco [...]

The Cancer Council in New South Wales is pushing for e-cigarettes to have the same restrictions as tobacco. While individual premises in NSW still have the power to ban e-cigarettes, which emit a vapour rather than smoke, they can still legally be used in places where smoking is prohibited, [...] Restricting the use of e-cigarettes would bring the the state's laws into line with other states including Queensland, the ACT and Victoria



Are vapers justifiably paranoid when it comes to research on e-Cigarettes? Maybe, since after all it does appear that research is often used as a weapon to promulgate fear and misinformation in the public health war against vaping.


New Study Purports to Show that E-Cigs are a Gateway to Smoking, [...]

The study followed 1,136 nonsmoking youth in grades 9 to 11 in Hawaii for one year [...] this study does not actually provide evidence that e-cigarettes are recruiting youths to smoking. What it shows is that experimentation with e-cigarettes is a much more sensitive marker of propensity to smoking than simply assessing rebelliousness or parental support or intentions to smoke.


Tobacco companies get partial win in FDA labeling fight

Tobacco companies notched a partial victory in a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's authority to require pre-clearance for tobacco products with changed labels or quantities. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta [...] vacated part of an FDA directive stating tobacco companies may need the agency's clearance to market products with significant labeling modifications, such as a change in color or logo.
