THE PROPOSED tobacco farm in the Zambezi region of Namibia by Chinese company Namibia Oriental Tobacco cc has raised a lot of controversy. The project is the brainchild of Swapo coordinator for Oshikoto region Armas Amukwiyu, who says he spent the last decade planning the project and scouting for investors.

British American Tobacco PLC on Wednesday reported higher first-half profit as the cigarette-maker was buoyed by investments that helped offset currency losses. The maker of Dunhill and Lucky Strike posted a net profit of £2.65 billion in the six months to June 30, compared with £1.75 billion a year earlier.
