New York State Senator Uses "Alternative Facts" to Promote Ban on Flavored E-Cigarettes

A New York State senator - Brad Hoylman (D-Manhattan) - has introduced legislation to ban the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes in New York. [...] Senator Hoylman's position is based on "alternative facts," or what prior to 2016 would have more simply been called a "lie." Not a single one of the tobacco companies is producing gummy bear, cotton candy, or fruit punch e-cigarettes.

Researcher claims 'academic McCarthyism' over e-cigarettes

A LEADING e-cigarette scientist has defended links between the tobacco and vaping industries. Dr Konstantinos Farsalinos, of the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre in Athens, said attacks on research into vaping funded by Big Tobacco were a form of “academic McCarthyism”. Farsalinos pointed to cases where scientists had come under pressure not to attend conferences funded by the tobacco industry.

Last year, the Legislature caught up with the e-cigarette industry and imposed a pack of licensing, safety and enforcement regulations. Licenses and fees were set for retailers selling e-cigarettes and other vaping products. Sales and possession of e-cigarettes were prohibited for those younger than 18. Manufacturers had to include a warning label about nicotine.

Ban Flavored Tobacco Products, Health Groups Tell FDA
