Researchers develop evidence-based model that can predict amount of nicotine released from e-cigarette
Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center researchers at the VCU Center for the Study of Tobacco Products (CSTP) have developed the first ever, evidence-based model that can predict with up to 90 percent accuracy the amount of nicotine emitted by an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette). The study was published in the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research.

Reducing nicotine intake does not reduce smoking habits
“We don’t know that very low nicotine cigarettes will not reduce nicotine dependence, but progressively reducing nicotine content of cigarettes in the way that we did, without other means of supporting smokers, did not produce the desired results,” Neal L. Benowitz, MD, a professor in the departments of medicine and bioengineering and therapeutic sciences at University of California – San Francisco, said in a press release.

U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty and a congresswoman from Indiana want makers of liquid nicotine containers to protect children from accidental poisoning by using child-resistant packaging. Liquid nicotine containers are sold for use with electronic nicotine devices, such as e-cigarettes, and often come in colorful packaging that can be mistaken for candy, Esty said in a release.

Greek State Minister Panagiotis Nikoloudis presented on Thursday the government’s draft legislation to suppress the cigarette and tobacco “black market.” The law introduces production line inspection, as well as packaging, trade, distribution and retail sales, with the proposition to prevent illegal trade and tax theft, while “cleaning up” the sector for the benefit of honest traders, who will regain their competitive advantage.
