In this issue: advocacy update, housing nearing completion, we're hiring, Derby fun, & a motorcycle ride for Rauch
Dear Friend,
Last month, we let you know of a very important issue impacting Rauch. We asked you to let Floyd County elected officials know the impact and importance of the services Rauch provides because of proposed changes in property tax funding our agency has received for 31 years. Subsequently, we met with officials at the state level and determined that the funds collected for the local developmental disabilities provider (Rauch) could not be used for other purposes. This information led to a reversal of the proposed cut to the budgeted 2015 support for Rauch. We are very grateful to the County Council, County Commissioners, and all of YOU for the support we received during this difficult time.
We believe that the funds Rauch receives are still in question as we look toward the 2016 budget, and your voice is still needed. Please consider calling or e-mailing members of the
County Council and/or County Commissioners via the linked pages, and include in your message:
  • Thank them for the funding Rauch has received over the years
  • Tell them how important these funds are to the continuation of Rauch services in their current structure and the potential impact to clients and families (download a fact sheet about Rauch’s impact here)
  • Tell them you want them to ensure that they continue to fund Rauch at or above the current level
We heard from several of the elected officials that many of you contacted them. We are grateful and touched that so many felt strongly enough about our services to make calls and visits and write letters. Your voice is truly invaluable in demonstrating the importance of what Rauch means to this community and the many lives we touch.
