11 Days til Christmas and 2 events before the end of the year!!
The year has flown by and we are already half way through the season with some great events still to come including our pinnacle event the Napier Port Harbour to Hills 2019 on 7th April 2019.
Thank you to all those that have been involved whether participating, volunteering or supporting. It is great to see you down there. This E newsletter has links to lots of information about our upcoming events and plenty of advice and tips for those looking at being involved in multi-sport or just beginning. If you do have questions please ask, no question is a silly question and we are happy to help.
We are on Instagram - triathlonhb and we are also on Facebook under "Triathlon Hawke's Bay" and "Triathlon Hawkes Bay Volunteers".
If you would like a full list of events this summer check out our events page HERE or download our PDF calendar on the website HERE. We will also have printed copies at every event thanks to Easy Print Napier.

We have a great team that volunteer their time to help govern the fantastic club.
Tri HB Christmas Gifts Available
With Christmas fast approaching, and if you are anything like me I am always stuck for that thoughtful gift for Christmas. This year we are offering gift vouchers which can either be an entry into an event or could even be a membership voucher to Tri HB, which now also includes membership to Tri NZ. If you want to give something a little different this year flick me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or give me a bell and I will sort something for you and save your Christmas!
As most of you are aware the pond had warnings posted, removed and posted in regards to recreational use of the pond which has disrupted several events. The Hawke’s Bay District Health Board has advised us that recreational activities in Pandora Pond could lead to an increased risk of illness following water quality sampling carried out by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council. The results from water testing are not available immediately. Once results are in, they are analysed by HBRC and the HB District Health Board makes the decision who then inform Napier City Council to erect signage if there is an increased health risk. Tri HB work closely with all these parties every week (and several times a week when there is an event).
The health and safety of the participants in our events is the upmost priority and for this reason we have had to make this weekends event a Duathlon. We do have contingency plans in place for swimming at Westshore, however this requires open water safety, which is a significant extra cost to the club and we need to give Surf Lifesaving at least 4 days notice to implement this, for us to move the event. Due to the limited notice before this weekends event it was not possible for us to organise the contingency water safety in time so our next option is a Duathlon at Pandora Pond. All Council and traffic management details are approved and waiting if the event venue is changed. We will be working with local authorities and Surf Lifesaving before our next Shed 2 Triathlon to ensure we can do our best to have a full triathlon at our next event.
Shed 2 Triathlon and Duathlon Series Race #2
This was the first event of the season which included Standard distance. Even though the weather was damp near the end it most certainly didn't dampen any spirits with plenty of smiles at the finish line and prize giving afterwards. It is nice to see so many coming to post event prize giving at Shed 2. Dennis and his team have been longtime supporters of Tri HB.

Campbell Bros and Stortford Auto Sales Mid- Week Aquathon
We had a large thunderstorm just before the event but we still had a really good turn out of athletes come down and enjoy the fine conditions during the event. These events are designed for everyone to be involved in a very low key friendly event.

McDonald's Hawke's Bay Primary and Intermediate Schools Triathlon
We had a overwhelming response to our annual event involving 28 schools from throughout Hawke's Bay. This year we had a record 586 participants involved in perfect day for racing. All the kids had a ball especially those that managed to get placings and got to stand on the winning podium (Thanks to Dale Long from the HB Ocean Swim Series).
Huge thank you to our volunteers and support from our sponsors on the day, we couldn't have managed such a great event without you. The kids who participated were fantastic!

Grab a mate, relative or neighbour and be part of the action and fun this Sunday at Pandora Pond.

Timing And On The Day Registrations.
At our last few events we have been using the Trident timing app, this has been a huge success. Using this new system gives us some great advantages such as faster check in at registration, live timing showing your splits live and instant results the moment you cross the finish line. We envision a large screen mounted in the trailer showing all results and splits live for competitors and athletes to see. We will advertise the link for you see the splits and results on our Facebook page and results page before the event.
Part of the process of changing to this app means we will no longer be taking on the day registrations, but we will be able to keep registration open until the afternoon before the club event (as advertised for each event). This process is also going to help when one day license fees come into play from 1st November 2019 we will be able to track and identify all Tri NZ members participating in our events.
Open Water Swim Confidence Course
