I took a moment at our last event and looked at all the different people involved and this confirmed to me why I applied for the position to manage Tri HB. We have an amazing club that welcomes anybody into the sport, no matter what level of fitness or experience the new comer may be, they are always welcomed by members and shown the ropes. By the end of the day they feel part of the Tri HB team. That all comes down to the members of the Tri HB and the difference you make at each event. Thank you to everybody for your help and guidance, it is what makes us such an awesome club.
Scott Clinic Race #5 - The Revolution Bikes Duathlon
Another beaut day with again near perfect race conditions, with course records being broken yet again. The part I enjoyed most about the day was the new people coming out and being involved in the event and also bringing their families along for support. We were missing a few of our regulars on race day as they were still away at the ITU Worlds, but numbers were good and believe it or not everybody who participated raced as individuals. Well done to you all who competed, it was great to see you at the finish line. For full results click HERE
Kona Ironman World Championships
Congratulations to Brendon Vesty for competing in an amazing race. Brendon had a bit of scare just before he was due to leave for this event and may need surgery, but thankfully he was given the all clear and competed. Great to see you on the world stage Brendon and again congratulations, I'm sure we all look forward to catching up with you when you get home.
We have three events coming up before the end of the month, check out what's happening below for all details.
Sponsors Expo and Social Evening - Thursday 25th October 6pm (Free Event)
This is an evening not to be missed and is open for everyone - club members, non members, family and friends.
The sponsors of Triathlon Hawke's Bay are an amazing group of people. They will have offers and displays on the night and this will be a great way to get to know them and say THANK YOU. The bar will be open and there will be nibbles available so you can socialise with other like minded people away from racing.
Everyone that comes through the door on the evening will go into a draw to win a years free membership along with a sponsors goodie bag. Please click GOING on our Facebook event page if you plan on coming along so we have some idea of numbers for catering.
Injury Prevention Evening - 25th October 7pm (Free Event)
This is the same evening as our Sponsors Expo and Social Evening, so come down a bit earlier and meet and mingle with our sponsors and Tri HB team.
Looking for an evening that has all the information about preventing and overcoming injury and being able to keep yourself fit this summer?
We have some fantastic experts in their fields coming along to speak and give some great advice including Lynley Boyce from Boyce Podiatry, Bridget Lodge and Dino Michalakis from TBI Heath and Matt Green from the Shoe Clinic Napier.
Make sure you book yourself in for Thursday 25th October 2018 at 7pm. This has been a very popular free information evening in the past, so book early and RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Shed 2 Triathlon Race # 1 The Ice Buster - 28th October 9am start
The Ice Buster is the first of five events this summer and at each event there are three different races with different distances and options that should suit everyone from the absolute beginner to the seasoned athlete. Walkers are welcome and encouraged to enter.
This series is recommended for anyone aged 13 years and over. You can do the event as an individual or if that seems a bit much, bring along a friend and do it as a team. You could even get two friends and really have a fun and relaxed day out there.
This year we are introducing an AquaBike option to the series and will be over the sprint distance course but without the run.
Last year we introduced a new event to get the kids involved.
For the 7 -9 year olds there is a 100m swim followed by a 1km run and the 10-12 year olds have a 200m swim followed by a 2km run.
Entry for this event will be $10 and registrations will be taken on the day.
Start will be approx. 9.15am as we don’t want the kids caught up with the triathlon swimmers.
The swim will be shallow enough that swimmers can stand up in the water. Parents/helpers can walk in the water or on the shoreline if they wish.

Triathlon Hawke's Bay Committee 2018/19
Tri HB has a great team behind it helping make decisions for the best interests of the club and its members going forward. All of our committee are volunteers and their time is really appreciated giving the club governance for the upcoming events and season.
We have 3 long standing members stepping down at the next Annual General Meeting. At our next AGM (late November) we will be holding elections for those who are interested in being part of the Tri HB Committee. If you are interested and would like to learn more about the role please feel free to contact any of our committee or myself who would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Contact Tri HB
Triathlon is for everyone and it is good to have fresh ideas with the committee to keep Tri HB enjoyable for all those involved.
Timing And On The Day Registrations.
At our last few events we have been trialing the Trident timing app alongside our original timing system. This trial has been a huge success and at our next event The Shed 2 Ice Buster Triathlon will be the timing apps ultimate test and all going well we will be planning to use this system solely after this event event. Using this new system gives us some great advantages such as faster check in at registration, live timing showing your splits live and instant results the moment you cross the finish line. We envision a large screen mounted in the trailer showing all results and splits live for competitors and athletes to see.
Part of the process of changing to this app means we will no longer be taking on the day registrations, but we will be able to keep registration open until the afternoon before the club event (as advertised for each event). This process is also going to help when one day license fees come into play from 1st November 2019 we will be able to track and identify all Tri NZ members participating in our events.
