Switzerland

Terrific ambiance and top-level sales animals marked the Swiss Mountain Sale organized by Ruegruet and SBro in Switzerland. SBro Awesome O’Kitty, a great-granddaughter to O’Kalibra, left the ring as the most expensive lot (CHF14,000), followed by SBro Doorman Esprit (CHF12,200) and Hellender Aftershock Galena (CHF11,200).

Kentucky

Cache-Valley Lheros 2331 (Kueffner) won the top-class cast Mid-East Fall Show in Louisville. Intermediate Champion Butlerview Door Aleah (Cunningham) came second ahead of Rocky Top Goldsun Minnie. With the Red Holsteins, the title went to Rosedale Rumor Hasit-Red (Rocky-Top/Hockett/Rosedale), while Ratliff App-4-Fiesta-Red claimed Reserve honors.

Wales

Erie Supreme Maude EX-93, a 6-year-old Goldsun-Bolton-Gibson from the British Maude family of Iwan Rhys Morgan, is Champion of the Welsh Dairy Show 2018. The Thomas barn supplied with Moorshard Mardigras Shower from the family of Glen-Drummond Shower the Reserve Grand and with Gatrod Imp Jingles the Heifer Champion.

New Zealand

In Hamilton, New Zealand, judge Dave Peglar crowned Te-Hau Guthrie Lee (Te-Hau Holsteins) Supreme Champion of the Waikato Show. Reserve went to Kauri-Glen Wind Prim (Ferdon Genetics), while Raetea Licorice Brandy (Schnuriger) and Clover-Lane Tango Sunray (Fowlie) won the Intermediate section.

In brief:

  • Tramilda EX-92 (Atwood-Sanchez) of EH Holsteins is Sweden’s new Champion
  • Salinoise Terrason Discrete of Gaec Duputy wins Sommet de l’Élevage 2018 (FR)
  • 2 times EX-93 in Switzerland: RS Arm Andressa (WTS) and Dardard Gold Actrice (Emmenegger)

In the focus: Megaman

His sire, Montross, is the Nr.4 bull with the most registrations in the US. Position 2 and 3 are occupied with Modesty and Kingboy, while Megaman currently is the undisputed Nr.1. That top seller of Select Sires owes his high appreciation to his outcross sire stack (Montross-Massey-Minos-Dorne-Burt-Lynch), his good production and fitness figures as well as his extremely functional conformation with below-average stature, beautiful udders and good legs. An A2A2 sire, Megaman appears to be the favorite of conventional dairy farmers.
