We would like to draw you attention to two key items that were discussed at the ICF Board Meeting:
We would encourage you to provided you feedback on both issues and would like to draw you attention to the deadline of the 29th February 2016 for statue changes.
- Canoe Sprint Programme
- New ICF Governance
Canoe Sprint Proposal for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games
- K1M 200m, K4M 500m, K1M and K2M 1000m
- C1M and C2M 1000m
The change in events are due to lengthy discussions and agreements with the IOC to obtain complete gender equality both in the number of events and the number of participants for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
- K1W 200m, K1W, K2W and K4W 500m
- C1W 200m, C2W 500m
The proposed change will now be provided to the IOC with a final decision made after an analysis and review after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The same ethos will also be applied to canoe slalom with the clear objective of ensuring gender equality across the four disciplines with C1 Women replacing C2 Men providing a canoe and kayak singles event for both male and female athletes.
Draft for Governance
Since the ICF President's re-election in 2012 the ICF Board has been working on a new Governance Policy. Due to the time restraints and the requirement to get feedback from NFs on this document the deadline for Statute changes and associated rule changes linked to the ICF Governance will be extended until 29th February 2016.
We look forward to receiving comments and recommendations on this document by 29th February in order to allow us time to finalise the rule changes for the ICF Congress in November/December 2016 in Baku.
