What you've missed.........

BCCMA/SSK  News and Results

The BIG Event of the year so far has to have been the British SanDa Championships held at the K2 Centre in Crawley.  This was a qualification event for the European Championships in Moscow.  SSK had John Machell and Aaron Canlas both fighting for places in the U75kg division.  As you can imagine the opportunity to fight for Britain in the European Championships meant that there were a lot of high quality fighters from all over the country taking part and a number of former Champions some coming back from abroad for this opportunity.  John and Aaron did themselves and SSK very proud.  John (The 2017 British Champion) managed to place third in the division and obtain a Bronze medal unfortunately he met the overall division winner, a former British Champion and Euro Competitor who traveled from his base in Germany.  Aaron also did exceedingly well but lost 2:1 in the qualifying rounds to another highly experienced fighter.  This was the first time they had fought on the Lei Tia  - a raised platform used for International competitions.  As a result of their performances they have been invited to take part in the British Cup Championship in Scotland later this year. Both stated how much they learnt from the experience; exceedingly well done guys.
This event was Dave’s first job in his EXEC role as BCCMA Head of Competitions and Events.  He was supported by SSK ‘The A team’ behind the scenes: Nic Cummings, Jane Anderson, Cath Agnihotri and her daughter Ria, managing to help BCCMA pull off a professional event, with full media coverage.  To see highlights of the event and interview with John and Aaron click on these links: Event Highlights John Interview  Aaron Interview

SSK Taolu and SanDa Tournament

Well what can one say about John and Aaron, two weeks after fighting in the British Championships they are at it again in our very own SSK Tournament.  Our tournament had twenty contenders battling it out for Taolu and SanDa points.  Individuals scores from the March event roll forward into PART II of the Tournament on the October 7th in Watford.  From these events we determine the overall SSK Champs for 2018. The results are announced at the Black Belt Grading and Awards Ceremony on Dec 2nd.  Currently the top of the Leader-board for the main event the SSK Taolu & Sanda Champion of the Year is John Machell (the 2017 winner). However there are number of guys hot on his heals Jon Alagoa and novice entry Jon Socrates entering the competition for the first time. There are plenty of opportunities to earn competition points coming up through the year so be sure to get involved.

In other news we have two new SanDa classes up and running. On the third Saturday of every month Pierre Cochart is running a class from 4.00 till 5.30 at the Tokei Centre.  In Watford, John Machell has started a SanDa Fitness sessions from 8.15 at the Dan Tien Centre; do get along and support these.

Our new SanDa scoring App ‘DualClicker’
‘DualClicker’ is an android app that replaces the tally counters normally used to score SanDa matches. This free beta version app is already being used by the GB Squad. It includes the SanDa scoring system and rules.   Like any sport a good understanding of the rules enables you to 'play clever' and be on top of your game.

That's it for this edition; next quarter we will run a feature on our various clubs and their classes.  But if you have any news items you wish to see included please email Pete.
