January 2014                                                           View this email in your browser

Welcome to a new year and with it the desire for change, renewal and growth.   With this in mind for both myself and all of you, new for 2014 I have the following options:
  • a Mindfulness Training for Yoga Workshop in February in Thame - suitable for Yoga teachers and students to work with bringing Mindfulness into Yoga practice.
  • a Mindfulness Training for Yoga Weekend Retreat in March - suitable for Yoga teachers and students to learn how to integrate Mindfulness in Yoga practice over several intensive sessions.
  • a regular Friday evening Mindfulness practice and teaching session followed by the opportunity to discuss questions about the practice.  Starting on January 31st it is suitable for those who have completed an 8 week course or who have some Mindfulness meditation experience.
If you are planning ahead for a restorative and relaxing break this summer, I'm running another Mindfulness and Yoga retreat in Devon in August (great fun for families too). Read more.

My regular Mindfulness courses also begin at the end of this month. Read on for details about the 8 week daytime and evening Mindfulness courses and daytime 5 week extension course.

In the Spring I will also be re-running the 8 week Mindfulness Training for Yoga course in Oxfordshire and for the first time in London - please contact me for details.

This year I am also launching a 12 month Mindfulness for Yoga teacher training course for Yoga teachers (and also students who want to extend their practice). See below for a brief course description and contact me if you would like to register your interest for a place.

Look out too for my articles on Mindfulness in Yoga Magazine. I have now been asked to contribute on a regular basis and in this month's magazine there is a piece "Detox your mind" and February's edition covers "Combating the winter blues".  From time to time I'll be uploading links to these articles on the website.

I really enjoy sharing my practices that have been such an important part of my life for the last 30 years. The process of teaching means I too learn much from the classes, workshops and retreats that I run. Thank you all for the nourishing environment that you help create. May you all be happy, may you all be well, may all your minds be peaceful and calm this 2014.

Keep smiling

Yoga and Mindfulness

The Space Yoga studio
Thame OX9 3ES12.30pm - 5pm

Incorporating Mindfulness into our Yoga practice moves our emphasis from external form to internal balance, a balance of body and mind. The removal of mental and physical tension is a key component of Buddhist Mindfulness practice. Only then does our body become a map of our mind giving us a means to witness and work with mental states directly through the body. It is a radical extension to the experience of Yoga both on and off the mat.

Explore how the integration of Mindfulness with Yoga enhances and extends the practice of both disciplines. Developing the capacity for ‘soft listening’ gives an accessible and direct way to observe and work physically with mind states as they occur; the body becomes a map of your mind and a practice that is self-teaching, self-correcting and self-healing is cultivated.

I liked this quote used by Scott Johnson during his recent workshop in Oxford.

Stillness in stillness is not the real stillness.
Only when there is stillness in movement can the spiritual rhythm appear which pervades heaven and earth. ~ Taoist Saying
