Roedde House Speaker Series

Roedde House will be hosting a brand new event starting in April! On the last Wednesday of every month, you are invited to join us for our Roedde House Speaker Series. Each event will feature up to three speakers who are experts in regional history, literature, or heritage conservation. The topics will change monthly, and there will always be something new to learn!

This month's speaker will be Andrea Sandeen. Although originally a Mathematics and Philosophy major, Andrea completed her B.A. in English at the University of Minnesota. She is currently a second-year M.A. student of English Literature at the University of British Columbia. Her research interests include 19th-century literature and its links to the philosophical development of mathematics. She plans to continue this research as she begins her PhD at UBC this fall.

Andrea's talk is called 'In Plane Sight: Envisioning Geometry and Symbol in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland'' and takes into account Victorian mathematics to reconsider Carroll's original manuscript of Alice as a way of envisioning abstract concepts of shape and number through illustration.

Tickets for this event are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors, students, and members. Tickets can be purchased online by hitting the button below, or at the door. Hope to see you there!

We'd like to share an event that is taking place at Roedde House Museum. Author Gretchen Roedde (yes, of that Roedde family) will be hosting an event here at the museum. She will be reading from her book Deep Water Dream: A Medical Voyage of Discovery in Rural Northern Ontario. Tickets are $35, and this event is a fundraiser for the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre.
