The International Festival of Extreme Sports (FISE) is the biggest action sports event of its kind in the world. Created almost 20 years ago in its homeland of Montpellier, France, FISE brings together the best international riders on skateboards, rollerskates, BMX, mountain bikes and wakeboards to compete over five action packed days of intense and exhilarating events.

FISE Montpellier has long been the crown jewel of the action sports calendar, with over 400,000 people descending on the heart of the city each year to enjoy an exceptional line up of talent competing for prizes and prestige on the world stage. There is truly no other event quite like it.

In an exciting development, 2014 will see FISE go global with three brand new events confirmed. The first is in Andorra, hosted between Andorra la Vella and Valnor, followed by Malacca City (Malaysia) and finally Chengdu (China). Each event contains 25 competitions in pro and amateur categories, bringing the stars of extreme sports together with its masses of fans around the world in a dazzling display of awe inspiring, jaw dropping stunts, jumps and skills.

Kicking off the series will be the 18th edition of FISE Montpellier. The event will take place from 28 May – 1 June 2014 on the banks of the Lez River, in the heart of one of France’s most stunning cities.

It will then be the turn of the three new destinations of Andorra, Malaysia and Chengdu to play host to FISE later in the year, making this premium action sports series of events a truly international spectacle.

The IAAF Diamond League is an annual series of track and field meetings. Going into its fifth year in 2014, it is an athletics series that has enhanced the worldwide appeal of the sport with competitions in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the USA. The IAAF Diamond League features some of the sport’s biggest stars including Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Allyson Felix and Mo Farah to name a few. The League encompasses 32 individual event disciplines, with a points scoring ‘Diamond Race’, which runs throughout the series of 14 meets. The IAAF Diamond League has established itself as the yearly top brand of athletics and, with the leading names of track and field assembling once again, the 2014 season promises to deliver another year of world class athletics viewing.


The Thomas Cup is the men’s World Team Championships, while the Uber Cup is the women’s World Team Championships. Held simultaneously, the two events are considered the premier team competitions on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) circuit. The format of play dictates that each tournament will feature 12 teams that are divided into four groups. Each national team will play the others in its group in a round-robin format with the top two in each group advancing into the knockout quarter final stage. Each tie will feature five matches, three singles matches and two doubles matches. In 2012 both the men’s and women’s teams from China took gold with convincing 3-0 victories over South Korea in their respective finals. The 2014 iteration of the biennial tournament will be hosted in the Indian city of New Delhi.


UCI World Tour: Year after year a stunning line up of the world’s cycling elite gather in Italy to compete in the Giro d’Italia, the toughest race in the world’s most beautiful place. The Giro is steeped in history; it first took place in 1909 and over the last 100 years the annual event has grown into one of the most respected and competitive of cycling traditions. It is known for producing great champions and dramatic contests between the world’s best riders as they battle for the prestigious Maglia Rosa (the pink jersey worn by the race leader) and to join the roster of past champions that have won the Trofeo Senza Fine (the Endless Trophy). The demanding route is excruciatingly tough, full of pitfalls with vertiginous climbs and breathtaking descents. It also showcases Italy’s stunning countryside, beautiful coastlines, and historical monuments, as well as being entwined in the nation’s culture and arts.

The Alpari World Match Racing Tour is one of the world’s leading professional sailing series, spanning three continents and featuring six world championship events across the globe. Sanctioned by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) with ‘Special Event’ status, this is one of the greatest spectacles in the sailing calendar, having grown steadily since the tour formed an annual circuit back in 1988. The 2013 tour included races in Germany, South Korea, Sweden, Bermuda, the US and Malaysia. This is a fiercely competitive head to head contest between two sailors who both use identical racing yachts, placing the emphasis firmly on the individuals. Match racing is all about blocking your opponent, constantly jostling around the race circuit until you cross the finishing line. Racing takes place close to the shore, creating a ‘stadium style’ atmosphere, which makes each event an engaging, exciting and action packed experience for fans and competitors alike.

The FIVB Club World Championships is a men’s and women’s indoor volleyball competition contested between the champion clubs from the different continental confederations. Held annually, the championships showcase the best of club volleyball from across the world. These two simultaneously run competitions continue to attract the elite teams, helping to raise the domestic club game onto an international platform. What’s more, as if the glory of being crowned the World Club Champions wasn’t enough, the male and female teams also compete for a share of the $750,000 prize fund on offer. Complete with exotic host cities every year, it always delivers a dramatic, must-see week of world class volleyball action.


Since its inaugural season in 2012 the championship has grown in size and popularity and the 2014 championship will include eight races from across the globe, making for another great season of endurance racing. In the 2013 season, the trio of Tom Kristensen (Denmark), Allan McNish (UK) and Loic Duval (France) from the Audi Sport Team Joest claimed the title, finishing on the podium in every race. In 2014, the most famous name in endurance racing, Porsche, returns to battle it out with established giants like Ferrari, and Aston Martin for the chance to stand on the top step of the podium as the best in the world for GT endurance sportscar racing.
